  3. Way over priced like all the stuff Tandy had. These maker stamps are only in 1 size. Their stamping tools don't last very long either without bending. I reckon it's like the old saying with Tandy, you get what you pay for these days.
  4. I know it's been several months since your listing was posted. I don't get on here much & didn't know if you had found anyone yet. I am available & in SE Tennessee. hubbardleatherworks@yahoo.com, 423-949-7886 Eddie Hubbard
  5. Excellent job.
  6. Much obliged to you for the patterns. Tex
  7. I don't know if this will help much but I have made several tank bibs for bikers. I didn't have a pattern. I just found where they wanted it to mount at & the shape they wanted. I did some measuring & I drew it out on paper first & let them see it before I ever cut them out. A couple of them I made the shape to my own thoughts cause they just told me to do what I thought would look good. Anyway they all were happy. Only other suggestion I could give you would be to find someone that has a bib or even a dealer & see if they would let you trace one out on paper. Then you could go from there. The main thing in my opinion is to be sure where it mounts on the tank on the front & back then the rest is pretty easy. The paper pattern around the chrome bezel on the tank or gas cap is of course easy to outline. You also might want to line it with soft material on the underside so it won't scratch the paint on the tank cause they do move some with the wind..It helps some if you can cut it a little small around the chrome bezel to where it is actually under the bezel instead of just up to the edge of it. Just take your time & make sure on any measurements before you cut your leather. Hope that helps you out. Tex
  8. Durn nice sheath. Good job !!!
  9. I would not dye the rough out, I would just leave it be. Maybe some oil & atom wax would be all I think you would need.
  10. Great job on the saddle. That was a pretty good jump to take but being a jumper I am sure it no step for a stepper. Keep up the good work, continue on & Thank You Sir for Your Service to our country.
  11. Excellent job. I can only hope I do that well with my 2nd saddle.
  12. Durn nice job. And all hand stitched. Most people just don't understand how much work goes into handmade leather goods. Keep up the great work !!! I made a pair of saddlebags for my motorcycle 1 time & I hand stitched them. Lot of work & sore fingers just from stitching. A man saw them on my bike & wound up buying them cause he liked them being all handmade.
  13. Don't feel like your the only one that feels that way. I feel like I I must be 1 to. I got a TB& I have been contemplating about using a 5lb. sledge on it. That would fix it for good, huh. I spent all day trying to use it, thought I had it & soon as I used it on my project it left bad imprints in the leather, skipped some on the stitching space & of course the thread broke several time. I have adjusted & adjusted & just can't get it to do right in my eye view. I would have been better off to just do it by hand so it would have been done right the 1st time & I wouldn't have to go back & smooth out & refinish the leather from scratches it left. For 20 + years I have been stitching by hand. I thought this would help with the bad arthritis I got but all it has done is create a bunch of extra work, slowed down my time by wasting the whole day with it. I think I will sell it or use the sledge on it. What do you think, LOL? I thought it would be of some help on the 2 saddles, 2 pairs of chinks & 2 pairs of chaps I am in the process of building but I will do it the old fashioned way so I don't have to worry about it. Just get out the stitching horse, my finger-tip-less gloves, awl, pliers, 2 needles, a lot of thread & go for it.
  14. Thanks for your reply. It is a black body. I am trying to figure out what it may be worth since the plug end has been cut off & can't check the motor. The seller said it was a 220 plug end. I thought they were 110 but I don't know anything about stitchers. Do you know about what they cost new or a low ball park figure on them used. I reckon that would really be hard to do being that it can only be operated by hand at this time to see that it works. Not sure if the seller knows how to thread it either. He said he wouldn't take any less than $700.00 for it.
  15. Can anyone tell me about a Neels Saddlery stitcher. I have found a used 1 that looks clean & turns fine by hand. The plug in end was cut off. The person selling it said it was a 220 plug. I am not too sure about that.I threaded it & it double looped pretty bad on the bottom. It also left foot marks on the leather for what little bit I stitched by hand. Are these good machines? I know nothing about stitchers cause I have always stitched by hand & the arthritis is just getting so bad that I thought I would make it easier on myself. Any info would greatly be appreciated. Adios, Tex
  16. Much obliged for yall's replies. I reckon being a Texas midget does complicate matters a bit. That was 1 thing I was wondering about if the cantle was moved further back on the bars if it got into the horses kidney area or puts more weight in that area. I just always figured the skirts would have to be cut no larger so that it didn't interfere with the hip area. I know I have seen a man riding a 21" saddle & he makes me look small. That 1 blew me away cause I thought 19" was the biggest. Are these 18" & 19" factory saddles not really safe for the horse? My steed is a 15 HH 1/4 horse that is 1150 lbs. He is stout as lye water. I have tied on to some big bulls with him & he pulls them pretty durn good in my opinion. That's a pretty good horse carrying a rider my size & pulling a 1800 lb. to 2000 lb. bull. I sure don't do it daily but I have had to do it. I really appreciate any experience & knowledge I can get from anyone. Adios,Tex.
  17. Very Nice looking rig.Only wished I had that kind of talent.
  18. Well to be quite honest I ride a mini paint & I can't keep my feet from dragging the ground. LOL. I can't help it that I am a Texas midget. Heck I am the runt of my bunch. No I have a 15 HH, 1150 lb. 1/4 horse that can carry me pretty durn good. Maybe I ought to get me a Percheron or something bigger. But I have seen bigger men & women than me on smaller horses believe it or not. I have seen this quite a bit, not just 1 or 2. I figure if I can pick up the back end of my pick up off the ground then a stout 1/4 horse ought to be able to carry me. All joking aside I know that a bigger horse would be better but that is easier said than found. But I would like to find out the answer to my question though on the saddles. Is an 18" saddle a problem for the average size horse? Will it sore him? Why do they not build any 18" Wade tree saddles? Thanks for yall's replies. Adios, Tex.
  19. I have a few questions about saddle making. I have been working leather for quite a few years now but have never stepped up to building saddles. I have had no formal training & am self taught.I have learned form my mistakes cause leather & time ain't cheap & it cost you money on whatever you are making. I have done some saddle repairs & that was what got me thinking on building some saddles. I have seen some really bad things on some of the factory saddles I have repaired. Not saying that all of the factories do these things. One as a matter of fact was a new saddle I bought for me from what was suppose to be a reputable factory in Tx. where I am from. Needless to say that saddle was shipped back the same day I received it due to some problems that should have never been. I am no expert by any means but horse sense tells you a few things. I have also seen alot of low end saddles built where I live now & wonder why even put something out like this. This is AMERICA not some foreign country trying to pawn off junk on the public. My questions are: Is it crazy to think of building some saddles without any kind of formal training on saddle building? Why are there not any 18" Wade tree saddles or 18" saddles on the market except on special orders? I was told by a reputable Idaho maker that anything over a 16 1/2" would sore the horse unless you are riding a draft horse. If this is true what is a Texas Midget like me to do. I am 6'4" & 300 lbs. I have been riding an 18" factory made saddle & it felt like I was tilted forward. I move the stirrup leathers all I could & that didn't help matters any. I was told by a reputable Montana maker that an 18" was a better than trying to squeeze a big person down into a smaller seat due to rider comfort & comfort to the horse by spreading the riders weight over a larger area of the horses back. I know you have to have a good tree to start with. The seat & swells are very important & need very close attention when building. And that you need to use #1 leather. So how crazy am I to think on building saddles? I mainly want to do this for me, my family & friends. And if these work out good then make some for sale to the public. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

  21. Well I am a transplanted Texan now living in Tennessee. On my piece out ground here I have some mighty tall oaks & I have at least 2 dozen long ropes. Also got a bottomless hole way ought back. If Texas catches em, truck em out here to me & I will take care of the rest. They won't steal anymore from them kiddos. Got no use for thieves, especially ones that will steal from kids.
