  1. Next one...done with blade until after heat treatment.
  2. Little work on my skiving knife. Scales are Claro walnut with brass pins.
  3. Does this pattern look better?
  4. Here's the knife
  5. Thank you for the information. My drawing the blade is 1 1/2" wide, 3" long. Handle could be slimmer. I doubt it would be round with a full tang. More flat with rounded edges. The metal I have is a 10 1/2" wide bandsaw blade 15N20 steel (.085" thick). Made the carving knife with it.
  6. Thank you for the information. This is kinda what I was thinking.
  7. I'm going to try and make a skiving knife this weekend. What is the average thickness of the blade and width? Thank you, David
  8. How's this one? Thought of folding belt loop to the inside an inch, as part of the welt. So good side of leather is on outside. Or is that too ambitious for first sheath? Figure I'd start with the little one first.
  9. Figured I try to draw up a pattern. Is this the correct way? How much do you add for the belt loop to the top? Or is it stitched on the back? It's a 1/2" bigger than knife. Inside line 3/16" for stitch line. Or does it go directly into the middle?
  10. Thank you Todd for your reply. I had to look up a couple of the products mentioned. Resolene and 315 cement. Watched 2 short videos on Resolene. Didn't realize that the dye would bleed out after drying. Do you cut it 50/50 so it applies better or is there another reason? Thanks again... David
  11. Starting from scratch what finish items would you recommend? I will primarily be making knife sheaths. What to use on edges, leather dye, burnishing liquid (if needed), sealer, glue, etc to complete the sheath from start to finish. Thanks again, David
  12. I've ordered the Chuck Burrows DVD about a week ago. Waiting on it to arrive. Al Stohlman has 3 books or volumes. Which is the better one to have? I like the cross draw. How's it attached to the sheath? What color is that dyed? Belly leather is a cheap way for me to learn on. Once I figure out how I want to make my sheaths I'd like to do over with better grade leather. Thanks again, David
  13. I've made a couple knives recently and now I'm wanting to make sheaths for them. Experience level is zero...don't have any of the correct tools. I do have a vegetable tanned belly to practice on. Watching every video I can on sheaths and stitching. Plus tool reviews. For the skinning knife leaning towards the wrapped type sheath. The smaller knives I really don't have a direction. They are 4 inches total length. . What would you do? Thank you David
