  1. Thank you Chuck
  2. Thank you Retswerb! Still waiting on head material to arrive.
  3. Good advice Arturo. I'm going to look for a better stamping tools!
  4. Something like this kinda...but a whole lot nicer and more weight on edge than this.
  5. Thanks AZShooter
  6. I've watched a few videos of people stamping and carving with a nice small leather round weight. Most have a carved disk on top. Where can you find these? Thanks again David
  7. Thank you Bill.... I'll look at his.
  8. Which one would be best for a new to stamping tools and work? So far I've only made a few sheaths. Plain with no decorations. I'd like to start adoring my projects. Thanks again for the help! David
  9. That's really very nice indeed !! I'm a new guy...HO, does that equate to horse leather? If so well done. I use a a custom holster made out of horse. So not to absorb as much sweat as cow hide I was told.
  10. It's a great looking swivel knife...thanks for sharing it!
  11. Metal work today and more polishing. Ends are brass with stainless steel rod and end cap. Basically waiting for the polyurethane to arrive, more coats of Tru-Oil to the handle. Not sure if I'm going to make the acorn nut or just buy one.
  12. Little bit more progress
  13. Progress...it's 5 1/2" long. I may trim ends to 5" in length. But it fits well in my hands.
  14. After talking with Robert Beard about mauls...this is what I've got so far. It'll have a polyurethane head with brass for some weight.
  15. Thanks Zonker. Would HDPE be better than UHMW? Or what about Delrin? Thanks again
  16. If used length of this Osborne hammer...overall length would be about 9" with the head around 3".
  17. looking at making my own maul. What's the average length of handles and the UHMW head length plus diameter? Going to use a brass keeper on head end about 2" in diameter. Use wood in picture for handle. Wood is remnants of custom rifle stocks. With a stainless steel rod down the middle. Thanks again
  18. I was thinking about putting rubber on the bottom as well. I have some 1/8" think walkway rubber to glue on.
  19. Sounds good!
  20. I'll try it out until it breaks. Then look for thicker stuff. There's a couple headstone cutters in the area as well.
  21. They are almost 1 1/2" thick. You don't think it'll hold up to stamping ?
  22. Going to try some carving and stamping. Looking around at what folks were using. Didn't really want to spend too much money on a piece of granite. Drove by a custom counter top shop. Stopped and asked if I could buy a piece of cut out or scrap. After I explained what I wanted it for he showed me his dumpster. He said take what I want as he has to pay to have it hauled away. I offered again to pay, he said no. Then I went into his dumpster...this is what I have now. Very nice smooth pieces. Never hurts to ask!!
  23. Thanks for the responses. Good advice from all. I'll look at some on Amazon and go from there. Hopefully I'll get enough practice to upgrade.
  24. Thank you Matthew! I would guess I'd have to have the actual knife blade to figure out what size to drill/ream the working end of the swivel knife first. I have some different sized 303 stainless rod and brass of various sizes I can use for the pieces. Set screws I have down to 6-32. I'd have to use MAPP gas for the braze. I have some silver solder on hand. Would it be better to use a steel rather than brass? Also, what part is the swiveling on? I see both the blade and finger rest are fixed with the set screws. Like I said ... never even held one! Thanks again !
  25. Looking to start carving. Which swivel knife would you reccomend to someone who has never touched one? Thank you again, David
