  1. Very nice !! What wood did you use for the hoop?
  2. Very nice! What size bearings are you using...if any? I'd like to try and make one. Would you mind sharing dimensions and particulars of your build? I'd rather make my own if I could. Currently don't own one! Thanks, David
  3. Looking at a lot of stamps lately. With such a wide variety which do you prefer and why...Brass, Stainless, or Steel? Thanks again, David
  4. How do you delete a post you've made? Started or otherwise in another thread? Thanks
  5. I have no idea what to get for this. Looking for some help on what snap to get for this knife sheath! I'd like to make another one for this knife out of real leather. It would have to go through one layer of 8-9 oz vegetable tanned. I measured the outside edge of original snap... it's .490 in/ 12.46mm. What tools do I need for these? Not going to make any more of them...doubtful anyway. So don't need a lot of them. Also, needing the belt clip and a rivet (I'm guessing) for one layer of same size leather. Thanks again for all your help!
  6. I did glue the welt to the back side. Then used the stitching irons on the front, going through to the welt. Not going all the way through 3 layers. Open up and punch the welt through to the back side with the marks. Going through 2 layers each time. Looked at Nigel's videos...didn't see anything on helping the back side for stitches. Back stitching is an issue that I am struggling with. Always look bad.
  7. For super newb to leather crafting...think they came out fairly well. For knives I've made. One is saddle tan pro dye and the other is chocolate pro dye. Finished with 50/50 mix Resolene and water. Chocolate is almost black. A little too dark for what I thought it would be. But it's alright. What do you think? Above posted in knife section But, after reading more about saddle stitching seems like I've used the wrong sizes. Thread is tiger 0.8mm used with 002 John James needles. Going through 3 layers of 7-8oz veg tan. I know my back stitches are not good at all. Haven't figured out how to do them! Watched a lot of videos on it. For holes...using Tandy Craft tool pro stitching iron(purchased after watching Nigel's video). They're 8 spi / 3.5 mm. I did polish them up after trying without during practice stitching. I have the 8,4, and 2 prong. Is this the correct way or something else? What's the "standard " spi for this application? What would be a better stitching iron for this kind of work? Thank you!
  8. Received these the other day. Kinda rough and not as sharp as I expected. Put them in my mini lathe about 10 minutes each. Just sandpaper from 240 grit to crocus cloth. Now polished and sharp.
  9. That's a great color. You're saying 3 part alcohol to 1 part dye..correct?
  10. Do you have to case/ dampen veg tan leather to apply pro dye? Before I read about dampening the leather I tried a test piece dry. It actually looks better than the one I did dampened. To me anyway. It's their chocolate pro dye. It came out a nice chocolate color. Once I dampened the actual piece it came out almost black. Anything wrong with putting on dry leather? Thanks again
  11. So far I've put on one very light coat of the 50/50 mix. Looking at neatsfoot...there's a lot of options. Which one do you use? I found Feibings has a 32oz jug for $14.99 ... neatsfoot oil conditioner.
  12. Thanks... didn't realize you could condition after Resolene. Currently don't have anything to condition with. So I haven't totally messed it up!
  13. I've made a couple knife sheaths and after reading more some put on a conditioner on. I haven't. Is it necessary? I cut the leather, dyed, assemble, and finish with 50/50 Resolene. Do I need a conditioner before the Resolene? Or another option? Thanks again
  14. Received the Rocky mountain awl. It was nice. Loose in the handle. It's too short for my needs going through 3 layers of veg tan. They were very helpful with my return. They suggested a Vergez Blanchard. Received it yesterday. The length is great, blade needed some attention. Goes thru easily now. It still needs a little more work. They are very friendly and helpful with all of my questions. Again thanks for the help!
  15. Thank you Chuck! Still have not completely figured out back saddle stitching.

  17. Thanks for the replies ! I'll look into getting one of the bigger ones for multiple uses.
  18. Ok...no one uses them !
  19. For cutting end straps. What do you use?
  20. What do you recommend for half round punches? Using on veg tan 7-9 ounce. Thanks again
