  1. Thank you for all the suggestions. They have all given me lots of ideas, but I'm still trying to figure out how thick does the board need to be? Specifically for punching leather stitching chisels I mean. Is it a case of the thicker the better?
  2. Hey Folks I'm looking to buy one of those boards that go underneath the leather while you are using stitching punches. They "absorb" the teeth from the stitching punch so that the teeth don't get damaged. I have seen some on AliExpress, that are a "polyurethane plate" and advertised for this exact purpose, but they seem very thin at 6mm - 10mm thick. I would have thought that they need to be thicker than that, so would appreciate some feedback. Any thoughts on the best size and thickness? I'm mainly making wallets, key rings etc just as a hobby for myself and family. Appreciate the help and advice
  3. It looks amazing. One of my sisters is a golf fanatic. I'm sure that she would love something like this.
  4. Absolutely stunning work. It's very inspiring. And thanks for sharing those tips on how to achieve it.
  5. Thanks Folks. Appreciate the information
  6. Hey Folks... can I ask a related question here. I have bought some of those craft tool stamps (small set with a few vmbasic bevelers, backgrounders, veniers etc etc) and a couple of high quality tapered mauls so that I can practice stamping leather prior to starting a proper leather craft course in a few weeks time. I noticed that just the little bit of practice stamping that I did left a couple of quite large dents in the surface of the BK maul. Is this a normal part of the process or have I already damaged my rather expensive maul.
  7. Thanks PB. Any clue as to what size and style the holes / stitching is?
  8. I really like the weave one. And the diamond and the chain. But i also think that the chain one needs a corner version so it joins and goes around a right angle corner with continuity. Just my thoughts
  9. Beautiful looking belts. I'm currently in the process of trying to decide on which stitching punches / pricking tools to purchase. At least I think that is what the things that you use to put the holes in the leather that you push the thread through are called. Can you please tell me what size / style punches you use to create those holes. And what type style and brand of thread you used. The threading on those belts, esp the top and bottom ones looks exceptionally nice to me
  10. Great video. Thank you for the link. I learnt a lot. I've never seen "leather belt hanger keychains" before. What are they used for? I couldn't find Geordie Leather in youtube that was mentioned by @zuludog but did find Geordies Workshop. Is that the one that you meant? And thanks for the other recommendations @zuludog They were also very helpful
  11. Hello all Just an introductory post. I'm from beautiful Adelaide. I have no experience at all in working with leather but am keen to learn some of the basics. More for my own enjoyment and the ability to maybe make some items such as wallets and belts for myself. Not really imagining it as a business or anything serious, just an enjoyable, interesting and creative hobby Looking forward to getting to know all the regulars on here and a few of the "not so regular" regulars! Ams of course, learning how to make some beautiful things with leather! Cheers AT
