  1. Are two 8/9 oz belt blanks glued together too much for a sturdy gun belt? Looking to make my first belt and wasn't sure if that would be too much. Also, someone told me that after I glue and sew, that I should wet the inside and wrap the belt around something like a large pot or something round like that and let it dry. Something about doing this would make it less likely to form "wrinkles" when it is first worn?? Been looking at belt blanks on Zack White and it looks like all of their blanks are the 9/10 oz size. However I see they are already beveled and the sides are painted. I also see they have 1 1/2 Vegetable Tanned Leather Strips in different weights. Is this product suitable for belt making?
  2. So I would get two belt blanks of say 6/7 each and then glue the two unfinished sides together. For the buckle end I would cut the inner piece short so the leather would be a single layer and wrap around the buckle per say and then it would attach to the point where it is the two pieces thick. Does that sound about right??
  3. I want to make a belt for myself. If I were to buy belt blanks from somewhere, what would I be looking for in terms of weight? Also, if I were to buy two blanks to make a thick gun belt, can I just glue them together, sew, and finish? I see some folks use a liner on the inside. What is that usually made of and is it necessary? Thanks for your time.
  4. Brinyar, very nice. What weight leather are you using and from where?
  5. Very nice Lobo. Interesting that you had it up for a short time and are already getting calls. How have you been advertising? Again, nice job.
  6. I posted this a few days ago in the suppliers thread but no responses. Maybe no one has heard of them. Has anyone ever done any busness with Albest out of NY? Specific item I am looking at them for is a supply of spring holster clips.

  8. I looked around here but I am still unsure. I am making holsters out of 8-9 oz and I am wondering what size/type of edger would be the best to use.
  9. I have been reading some on belt making and I read somewhere that some people added a strip of Kydex between the two layers to add stiffness to the belt. Supposedly makes for a better gun belt. What are the thoughts here about adding Kydex between the two layers? Kydex is plastic.
  10. Here is my version of a stiching pony that I made. I had the wood sitting around so I threw it together. Oh yeah, and you can see my work area, aka the kitchen table.
  11. Here is another holster I created. I used white thread but I am not so sure I care for it. I also need to get some bag kote as the can of Fiebings Leather Sheen isn't working as nice as I thought it would. As you might be able to see the front got a bit shiny.
  12. Speaking of the interchangeable IWB/OWB, the first holster I made was just that. Although it was my very first attempt it came out nice and wears IWB just as well as OWB. For the IWB retention I used metal holster clips with a leather spacer between it and the holster. I attached it with a tee nut that went trhu the belt loop slot I had cut. This allows for changing the depth and cant of the holster. The OWB needs a bit more work as I don't think I cut the slots large enough to fit a 1 1/2" belt. Here is a picture of the holster without the clips. Here the clips are attached. These are the metal clips. I did also make a set of clips out of Kydex and they fit great as well.
  13. Thanks for the confirmation. What I was considsering is sewing the clip bewteeen two pieces and then sewing the bottom to the holster. This would give the option that once you put the holster on you could tuck a shirt in.
  14. I want to add a metal belt clip for a IWB holster and have a question on the leather weight. I use 8-9 oz for the holster but when I tried to use that weight with adding a sewn in belt clip, it seems to thick. Meaning not much room left for the belt. Those of you that make itmes like this, do you use a lighter weight leather in the area of the clip? Here is the type of clip I am attempting to use.
  15. Earlier in this post I mentioned a company Botach but now I am rethinking this company. I ordered one blue gun from them on 3/26 and they have not filled the order yet. Not too happy with the service. I emailed them and they responded that they would look to see what happened but they have yet to let me know.
  16. Here are pics of my first attempt at making a holster. I haven't decided on a finish yet. Going to make this a IWB/OWB. Any suggestion on what I have made?
  17. I wasn't able to get to Tandy today before they closed so I didn't get the Leather Sheen I needed. Is there anything comparable at places like Home Depot or Lowes? If not I guess I can wait another day and get it when Tandy is open. Thanks.
  18. Here is a good place to look. They even list what can be used for several models. An example is they have one that can be used for a Glock 26/27/33. I'm sure most blue gun places do this. http://www.botachtactical.com/bgp.html
  19. Thanks to so many here I am learning a lot. I am looking for a "starter" machine so I don't want to break the bank. My question is will any of the following singer models work for sewing projects like holsters. 66 401 99k Please let me know and I do appreciate your guidance. Paul
  20. Just got a photo of the machine. It looks like a 201-2.
  21. Is the 201-2 similar to the 201? I asked about a 201 as to if it could sew 8 ounce and so far its 50 50. Half say yes and half said no. You say it does 1\2" just fine. So am I asking for trouble if I got a 201? Thanks
