If you have a press you don't need to heat the stamp for veg tan. Depending on the veg tan sometimes you don't even need to case the leather. I've even been able to impress my maker stamp and certain other stamps in thick chrome tan using my press

Yes I have the handle too. Just trying the heat. Never had a brass stamp and curious how it will hold up to hammering. Thought it would work easier on odd shaped stuff. I hav an arbor press but it does not have metric thread. Will work something out.

I just place my stamp on the leather and bring the ram down to press the stamp into the leather.

I just wanted to get far from computers in leather work.

My goal for when I retire....  but crikeys, with the way the market is going, looks like I'm going to die at my desk...

I’m not sure if you can carry out any vocation or avocation without some computer interaction. I needed a rocker  switch for my drill press. I put a toggle on it but I use it a lot and wanted to fix it right. I went to 5 electrical supplies, including a very large one in a city. Also called Grainger and 2 other supplies. Most would not even look, even with a part number. Looked at Amazon and got it in my mailbox in 3 days. And we are urged to shop local, support small business. But sorry, not a political thread.

My son-in-law designed mine using Inkscape, a free vector graphics package. You have to be somewhat of a computer jockey to use it; I'm not.

My kids sent it to a guy they found on Etsy, who turned it into a brass stamp. It works as a branding iron on the end of a heater, or as a stamp on wet veg tanned leather.

To stamp it, I use a vise and a couple blocks of wood. One of these days when the budget allows, I'll buy a press.
