Contributing Member fredk Posted May 20, 2022 Contributing Member Report Posted May 20, 2022 If you have a press you don't need to heat the stamp for veg tan. Depending on the veg tan sometimes you don't even need to case the leather. I've even been able to impress my maker stamp and certain other stamps in thick chrome tan using my press Quote Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Members MarlinDave Posted May 20, 2022 Author Members Report Posted May 20, 2022 Thanks. I will try that. Quote
PastorBob Posted May 20, 2022 Report Posted May 20, 2022 I have never used heat. I always case it and smack the stamp with a mallet. My stamp has a screw -in handle to make it easier. I do have a larger stamp that is used with my Harbor Freight Arbor Press. Members MarlinDave Posted May 20, 2022 Author Members Report Posted May 20, 2022 Yes I have the handle too. Just trying the heat. Never had a brass stamp and curious how it will hold up to hammering. Thought it would work easier on odd shaped stuff. I hav an arbor press but it does not have metric thread. Will work something out. Quote

Members MarlinDave Posted May 20, 2022 Author Members Report Posted May 20, 2022 Yes that should work. The male thread is on the handle. Quote

Members MarlinDave Posted May 20, 2022 Author Members Report Posted May 20, 2022 I’m not sure if you can carry out any vocation or avocation without some computer interaction. I needed a rocker switch for my drill press. I put a toggle on it but I use it a lot and wanted to fix it right. I went to 5 electrical supplies, including a very large one in a city. Also called Grainger and 2 other supplies. Most would not even look, even with a part number. Looked at Amazon and got it in my mailbox in 3 days. And we are urged to shop local, support small business. But sorry, not a political thread. Quote
Members OldCanuck Posted May 21, 2022 Members Report Posted May 21, 2022 My son-in-law designed mine using Inkscape, a free vector graphics package. You have to be somewhat of a computer jockey to use it; I'm not. My kids sent it to a guy they found on Etsy, who turned it into a brass stamp. It works as a branding iron on the end of a heater, or as a stamp on wet veg tanned leather. To stamp it, I use a vise and a couple blocks of wood. One of these days when the budget allows, I'll buy a press. Quote
