English: With speeds topping out around 85 MPH, Locomotive #2542 - a Mountain type locomotive - served as a work horse for Illinois Central Railroad in both passenger and freight service during the middle years of the 20th century. #2542 is one of only two surviving 2500 class Paducah Rebuilds (named for the square "Paducah" steam dome atop the boiler) with a sister locomotive, #2500, residing in Centralia, Illinois. These were the largest steam engines in the ICRR fleet. The wheel arrangement for this locomotive was reconfigured in 1942 from a 2-10-2 to a 4-8-2 arrangement; beginning her life as locomotive #2906 in Lima, Ohio Locomotive Works in 1921.

Owned by the City of McComb City, Locomotive #2542 was acquired in 1962 largely through the efforts of the late Oliver Emmerich (then editor of the McComb Enterprise Journal), the McComb Junior Auxiliary and other local civic groups. Here ya go friend, these are the locos I was talking about . About as close as I could get.  They're just sitting there, pretty much abandoned . I managed to count 10 loco's . The yellow one in the foreground ' 2301'  is a newcomer, it has only been there for a few months. They were  in good working condition, almost new some of them ,  but I did find out that one or two may have been vandalised inside. Now that really p**ses me off !!  Theres no need for that. The building in the background is our wheat bin for the local farmers to offload their grain, but even that has now been  closed by the grain handling company. So now the farmers have to travel much further to offload their grain at another wheat bin  in another town, at extra expense ,  go figure. So now as a result the roads  to and from , are now in constant need  of repair .  Can't fix stoopid !!

10?  Seems like only yesterday lol. Its a shame they are mothballing those for such a global sham. Ironically over here they are bringing back passenger trains to our U.P. line. They rerouted them in the 60's and a good portion of our town dried up. they were a great source of income for the shops downtown. Now they are bringing them back to get us ready for public transit IMO. We wont be able to afford personal vehicles in the future its just not good commie/socialist/new world order business to have rich peasants. We will live in 15 minute towns and walk or ride public transport. But you know that's all a conspiracy theory right.

Passenger trains are great here on the east coast!  If you take into account the time to get to/from airports and through security they are usually faster than flying.  If you get unlucky with traffic, they're faster than driving and you don't have to pay to park wherever you're going.  You can kick back and read or watch stuff on your phone or tablet.  

I used to live in the Philly burbs in NJ where I drove to the train station and rode in to work every day.  It was about a 30 minute ride where, again, I could kick back and read.   I occasionally drove to work when I had something to do after work.  I had to leave home about 1/2 hour earlier to avoid sitting in traffic, and still had to pay a toll to cross the river.  Public transit trains are awesome.

I've also done some long distance train rides, but that was in the '70s when I was a kid, to visit grandparents for summer vacation.  I even got to ride the infamous Turbo Train.

that is cool, I'm sure they are a god send back there where there are a lot of people.  My folks rode the old narrow gauge train from Durango to Silverton one time they made me drive the car lol i was only 15 then and only had a learners permit.

I've always wanted to go on a trip on a few trains, one is called ' The Ghan' , goes from Adelaide to  Darwin , and the other is ' The Indian Pacific' , goes to Sydney from Perth , I prefer  first class  Haven't seen much of Oz, but this is the perfect way to do it, no driving and no stress.  One day....

Something special about riding on trains . I used to go to school daily  on trains, on ' old diesel clunkers' as I called them.  Modern trains look nice, but have no character . 

I have  briefly mentioned these before, but heres a few pics  of my ' Landy's' Chuck. I actually worked on the ' 62 this afternoon . Its the most likely one to start, run & drive.  Just needs a bit of work on the clutch master cylinder.   All orig, even the  points & Champion  spark plugs,  and has only 53000 miles on it , mostly farm work.  Theres no reason why the 68  won't run, its all there except the carby ,I also have spare parts if I need them . Was my regular drive once, I drove that everywhere  back in the day .  The ex military is all orig,  does run, but very rough on 3 cyl's . The last time I drove it was to do the fire breaks,some years ago,   the old  plough is still hooked up.

those are soooo cool my friend, i would love to have one. Man it makes me miss my old Jeep and a couple of other old trucks i used to own. so much character in those old vehicles that new junk just doesn't provide lol.

I have a good rapport with the local supermarket owner, I have done leather stuff for him in the past. Every so often he'll give me a new beer to try out, a freebie ...or two from a supplier, and I give him a nice ale  or two  at Christmas    Only this time he gave me a  whole bottle of peanut whisky . Its delish, but  a little sweet for my palate, so I added some dry ginger ale to it , Whacko !!!    The last ale he gave me was a nice dark chocolate ale, just one 600ml can almost had me on my a***se

Its very sweet, more like a liqueur than a spirit .   Some bourbons have honey and /or  spices  mixed in, they too  can be  very sweet. Original recipes are my palate

little salt

lots of pepper

libetsl dose of garlic powder

roll into meatballs.  360 f 1 hour

6- tables on butter,   Flour,  start a gravy 

add little salt, lots of pepper, garlic powder 

add water vas needed

 

make a big pot of mashed potatoes

add half the gravy

pourvthe other half over the meatballs and continue to cook

add meatballs to tatters s add enjoy

It never got warm here, its been a beautiful summer with plenty of moisture and low temps the garden is bulging with goodies just about 1/2 ready to be canned for the winter. i love fall but.... I'm not ready. Picked four gallons of choke cherries yesterday from the neighbors tree.

@chuck123wapati G'Day Chuck, well, its that time of year...again. Spring has sprung Canola crops are in full bloom in blinding yellow , the blowies (blow flies)  have woken up, a time for weed spraying , slashing, and fire breaks . Started early with the fire breaks. Got my ol' Fordson E27N tractor fired up about an hour ago,damn thing started first press of the button...and without any ' Start Ya Bastard'  ( ether) , beauty.  Early to get them started, early to finish before it gets too hot and while the ground is still a little soft.. Slashing and mowing to do.  Weeds are taller this year, extra rain and flooding does that . Apart from annual chores,  I so love the changing of the seasons .  Its also a time to get in the occasional barby with a few steaks, satay skewers etc. 

Just had our local agricultural show a few weeks ago, had the best day in a long time.  Mother Nature was awesome   Wasn't the same without my best friend, Mum. Christmas won't be the same this year.

Very well my friend. the days are getting noticeably shorter and we have been doing a lot of wild foraging and harvesting in our garden. It wont be long till snow fly's this year.it hasn't been warm at all in fact there is still snow in the hills from last year. None of our warm weather plants did very well but the chard, beets and cooler weather crops did great lol. looks like fried green tomatoes this year lol only one has turned red and they only have about three weeks tops before first frost. its funny we have two predominate "weeds " in our garden, Mallow, and lambs quarters but both are edible and have grown like weeds this year lol so they also go in the freezer. Its crazy how much edible food gets pulled up and thrown away just because its been forgotten as a food source. I've been re wiring the house and fixing the windows for the coming winter, next month hunting season so I'm gonna be busy.

I'll bet that old tractor is music to your ears lol i love to listen to them idle along while puffing along. You better put in a garden this year I hear food is going to get scarce world wide. plus you can hit some farmers markets if you have them over there. 

Take good care of your dad my friend and you stay safe and well also, holidays are now meant for good memories of those you love, St Patty's day kicks my ass, it was my moms favorite and she passed just a couple of days prior. She wore this cheap green plastic shot glass on beads around her neck that she would take a couple nips out of. It hangs off my bed post now and i wear it for her memory every year.

@chuck123wapati Hello friend, wasn't sure whether to talk about this, or where to post it,  but theres a certain individual that keeps freezing when doing press conferences. I'll keep that ' stuff'  starting with ' P'' well  out of the conversation . However, I have recognized the condition, similar to what my Dad has experienced  in the past.  Dad used to just 'freeze' , sometimes mid sentence, doing simple tasks like boiling a kettle,  or when mid- stride when he stood up.  Its scary sh**t ! 

They are called '  syncope's ' . Its either dehydration, medication/s, or perhaps a combination of both. But ever since the Dr's stopped the dementia medication,  and simplified other meds, he's hardly had an episode since.  One Dr even said, "some dementia medications are more trouble than they are worth" . While theres no cure for dementia, he hasn't got any worse after coming off his dementia medication. 

So just wondering if said  'person  that freezes'  has dementia ?

That could very well be the case.

lol I'll try too. No p from me!! He's on some drugs of some kind I'll bet. I wont say it was the vax but...… who knows what they put in his. Every day another young healthy athlete dies of heart problems.
