Members Sheilajeanne Posted February 8 Members Report Posted February 8 (edited) Last winter was really mild in S. Ontario, with very little snow. This winter is making up for it. We've been down below 0 F a couple of times (-18 C) and there's been no shortage of snow, either. We've been luckier than some areas which have been blasted with unbelievable amounts of lake-effect snow. Bracebridge and Gravenhurst have been particularly hard hit. This picture was taken a few weeks ago in Gravenhurst. The man is 6' 3" tall, and they picked him to go out and look after the animals in the barn, because he was the tallest person! Power was out in many areas for several days, and many people were trapped in their homes without heat or light. Those who had snowmobiles went around checking on their neighbours, and some had to be evacuated to warming centers. Muskoka paramedics were prepared: Edited February 8 by Sheilajeanne Quote
Members Handstitched Posted March 11 Members Report Posted March 11 Those are extraordinary pics, something we don't see here in Oz. We just got through some extreme heat, just starting to cool down, a bit. Queensland just a had a cyclone so all the towns closest to the coast are flooded. Members Sheilajeanne Posted March 13 Members Report Posted March 13 We are finally getting some above freezing weather, and a lot of the snow has melted, but it really has been crazy! My brother told me they have had over 13 ft. of snow this winter where he lives (Orillia.) In my area (Alliston) we got enough that one of our neighbours came over to tramp down the snow with her snowshoes to make trails for the dogs - and I'm talking LARGE dogs - a German shepherd and a Norwegian elkhound! SOO glad to see things melting, so I can get out and walk! We don't have sidewalks on my street, which made it difficult and dangerous to walk when the roads were snow-covered. Quote
Members Handstitched Posted March 14 Members Report Posted March 14 We finally had some decent rains yesterday, thanks to a 'mini 'storm. Poor old Mother Earth is so parched from the extreme heat. Now I'll watch all the weeds grow. We're never happy I also indulged in some Kangaroo burgers yesterday too, damn tasty. Roo meat is so lean, good for those on low fat diets....like I should be HS Quote ' I have a very gweat friend in Wome called Biggus Dickus, He has a wife you know, do you know whats she's called? CFM chuck123wapati Posted March 14 Author CFM Report Posted March 14 its our turn for a mild winter. we had the mega snow two years ago. Its the wet time of spring now and when we get the moist moisture of the season. So we get snow/sleet rain hail stuff depending on the minute lol. the weather changes very quickly here. CFM chuck123wapati Posted March 14 Author CFM Report Posted March 14 So anyway I haven't spent the winter totally hibernating. I have a couple of old bamboo fly rods I bought off eBay years ago, last fall while in another town i bought another from a thrift store. It turned out the tip was broken but the silver lining was a beautiful red agate stripping guide a vintage sock and the original aluminum case. long story short I built two rods out of the three. I see some leather cases in my future lol. Bravo, Good Sir. thanks, i feel the same as you the one has a date of 3/33 maker unknown on it the other was an old Montague both the wood was in excellent and when refinished they are beautiful. That old workmanship on what was once a lower quality rod is as good as any. I cant wait ti try them out lol the water is still to hard here. New reelseats handles and eyes complety scraped down with ten coats of try oil and japanese silk thread. When you afford cool sometimes you gotta make your own cool. The main reason o got into leather work btw.
