LOL - wise man!

Your photo clearly shows why the calves are often called 'red dogs'.

Are these wood bison, or the regular plains bison?

bison bison athabascae, at least as far as my information provides.

There is some doubt among biologists, because some think they are not distinct from bison bison bison, only that their environment causes the increased mane and neck size, but I'm not biologist enough to come down on one side or the other.

The Mackenzie herd is sometimes billed as 'the largest disease-free herd, of bison. This refers to bovine brucellosis and bovine tuberculosis, and looks true enough from here. Anthrax, however, killed off a third of the herd a few years ago. Maybe actually happened twice in my 25 years here.

In the southern end of NWT, there is a 'bison control area', where people are asked to report sightings, to keep those diseases away. My understanding from several years ago, was that anyone could shoot (and report) bison in that area, and even keep the meat. No hunting license required, only communication and reporting to the gov't. Of course, check current rules before rushing up here to hunt them. Oh, and location of that area makes it so expensive to hunt there, that you are far better off starting your own bison farm.

Well, maybe slightly less expensive than that.

Several years ago, my sweetheart and I went to hunt these, and stayed at 'Lake 690 Camp'. If you can't find it, no worries. It was in the middle of nowhere :)

Yes, calves are often castrated that way, too.

Guys, please keep your 'fruit loops' to yourselves. Even with that fun name, I would shrink away.

I'm not using mine as much these days, but I still like them, and wish to keep them.

Chuck, didn't know your state had a 'Wyoming triangle'!

Wyoming Triangle Identified Along I-80, Officials Continue to Blame Wind
While most Americans are familiar with the Bermuda Triangle, Wyoming residents have long suspected that the state has its own version and it runs straight along I-80.
For years, officials have attributed the alarming number of semi-trucks tipping over and "taking naps" on the interstate to high winds. However, documents quietly circulating among concerned locals suggest that the real cause may be far more complicated, involving supernatural forces and possible alien technology.
According to the findings, some vehicles lose stability not from gusts, but from mysterious bubbling gas pockets beneath the roadway. When released, the gas briefly disrupts a vehicle's buoyancy, causing it to gently roll onto its side, usually in the exact spot where drivers swear it was calm moments earlier.
Disappearances along the corridor have also raised eyebrows. While officially classified as "relocations" or "missed exits," insiders claim that certain individuals were unintentionally collected by alien transit systems operating beneath southern Wyoming.
The science connecting I-80 to the Bermuda Triangle is reportedly straightforward. When a straight line is drawn from I-80 directly to the Bermuda Triangle, the two align perfectly. If the line is stopped at the Bermuda Triangle, it vanishes entirely, something experts say is "extremely concerning."
State officials continue to reassure the public that wind remains the only explanation and encourage drivers to check conditions before traveling. Meanwhile, residents are advised to secure loads, drive cautiously, and avoid drawing straight lines on maps late at night.

 This is exactly where I live.

When we travel, most locals rate their drive on I80 by how many accidents they pass along the way.

Today it's only supposed to be"breezy." 13mph with 35 mph gusts lol, sometimes there isn't much time between gusts, but it gives you time to catch your breath.

The truth is out there!!!!
