Hello,

I'm looking to have leather cut by laser based on paper templates.  Job will require digitizing paper templates & edge smoothing to generate a suitable part file.  Part sizes vary from a few square inches to approximately 40 square inches are are made from 3-4oz to 6-7oz Herman Oak A grade Vegtan.  Short run production quantities are typically in the 5 to 50.

Please contact me for more details

Thank you!

If interested, I can share my experience with a good CO2 laser machine and laser marker.

Possibly.  The main cost problem was having the paper patterns digitized.

Using a program Visio, I was able to quickly, and I mean quickly do this.

I simply took a pic with a ruler for reference, and was able to transform the carving area for future use.

I didn't look into it very deeply, but it looks like you could get an annual subscription for $60.

There is also a professional edition for several hundred.

Nice job!  I have a three pc snap wallet that I'm considering having clicker dies made as a first product that I want to roll into production with quantity orders of 50 -100 pcs.   If your interested I'd like to discuss.

My sandals are ideal candidates for laser cutting but are also much more of a commitment in all respects and I don't have retail distribution at this time.

I was addressing your concern about digitizing your patterns.  Thought you may be able to use the same software I mentioned.

Life lesson, charge an up front fee for stuff like that.

As you're aware Bert, you have to do test card to get good laser settings. He sent me tiny little scrap pieces that I wasn't able to use. Never responded for months after a contract was signed and then hit me up again. Thats when I turned down the job entirely. Fortunately, as we never got to the actual testing phase for settings - I never digitized anything.

As long as you got paid I for what you agreed to I think you did just fine.

 Bert,

My appologies.  The cost of digitizing, cutting and shipping materials back and forth was too expensive and just didn't make good business sense.  As well you has concerns about life expectancy of your laser tube and were not able to cut two of the rubber products i use in the sandals due to fumes.  As it's winter now. and Sandal sales are down even in California, I'm focusing on other products at this time.  I've also made some material changes to improve the wearability and comfort level which I'm planning to release on my next build cycle that I will be cutting by hand.

Bert,

Make a habit to charge a fee that makes sense to you separate from the laser time.

For example, I usually charge $75-$150 setup fee that I amatorize over the period of 5-10 repeat small orders, or take the price off in the event of 1 or 2 big orders.

But I never do a discounted setup fee, no matter how much the promise of business is. You're just asking to be disappointed.
