Thanks to a lot of folks for pointers to improve my prototype, here is the second version.

Very handsome!  How did you seal/burnish the flesh side of the flap?

Thanks much!  Pretty simple, I just put dye on the flesh side, then after it dried, I brushed it with tankote, and slicked it down with a glass slicker.  Would be much better to get it from the tannery already dyed and gum-pasted, but it is what I had so that's how I handled it.

Thanks.  I am interested in different methods for this.  I buy mostly bridle leather with a moss-back but if I split it then I will seal the backside.
