AlZilla Report post Posted May 28, 2023 Kind of a long shot here. Does anyone know of a close match to the Tandy Brown Bison Dye that I can buy in a quart or larger size? I ran across the color here, liked it and bought the 4oz size. It seems to take quite a bit to get coverage and it's way too much $$$ to buy in the small size. I can not find anything bigger than the 4 ouncer. Thanks.
tsunkasapa Report post Posted May 28, 2023 I've never heard of 'Brown Bison'. Is that one of their EcoFlo products?

I made 4 purse straps, a half inch by about 2 feet and ate up about a third of a bottle.

The airbrush if i want a nice even dye job, or with the sponge if i want it to have some variation without streaks and stuff. i have a hard time getting an even job without dipping, never have figured out the dauber so i use the problem to my advantage a natural sponge does a nice job if you just daub or tap it lightly, don't wipe it or smear on the dye just daub it lightly all over. here is a phone case with the dye daubed on. The amount of leather you had to dye was a 2 inches wide by 24 inches long (a good size chunk) and I’m guessing the bottle size is the 4 ounce (.118 liters)? And that you covered all the sides. I’m going by your words, that using 1.3 ounces is about the right amount (Unless you used one third of the 32 ounce bottle = around 10 ounces, which is way too much). I really don’t use my air brushes much and I’m sure the amount used would be about half an ounce, but the finished look would be drastically different

Maybe I'm just a cheapskate (yes, I am). I'd still like to find something close enough that I could get by the quart. The Bison Brown seems to be only available in the small size. We are all cheapskates and penny-pinchers here! I have been playing around with vinegaroon and need a good way to strain it. Pro-Dye black is $45 a quart here in NC so I need a backup plan for dye. I saw that there are ways to make brown dye, it’s worth a look to see if you can make something that will work!
