vicroll91 Report post Posted June 20, 2023 Hi all, I recently acquired a Singer 177-2 lockstitch machine. As far as I can tell, and from what little I have gleaned from the internet, it's a simple repair machine with a cylinder arm. You control and feed the work entirely yourself. It's a cool machine, and I plan to use it with some of my high schoolers. I'm curious if anyone has any more info on it as I have found almost nothing, and very little that I could verify. I'm also in need of a bobbin case, and I just don't have the knowledge to know if any other bobbin cases will fit this, as there are simply no old stock parts available for this machine. I'm hoping that the bobbin case it universal and I can just plug and play. I have found the model listed here: link. and the manual and parts list here: Link. Wizcrafts Report post Posted June 20, 2023 It is what we call a "darning machine."
vicroll91 Report post Posted June 25, 2023 Bump - I wonder if it is possible to fit some other model's bobbin case. It is a shuttle hook but it's hard to say what might fit.

Sure wished I could help,I've never seen this model before. This Singer looks alot like a Chandler darner(which parts aren't available for either) but the bobbincase looks different. Hey no worries. I'm thinking of taking it to a local shop where he can try out a bunch of different old parts. I believe this to be one of the older versions of this machine as some of the parts on mine don't watch the drawings on the 1920s/30s versions.
vicroll91 Report post Posted July 2, 2023 Also, I've been messing around with how it feeds. The hook that is in there will grab the top thread. I suppose it's missing just the part that holds the bobbin and tensions the thread. No idea what the two screws are for on this model.
shoepatcher Report post Posted July 5, 2023 The bobbin case. Machine has no feed. needle goes up and down. makes stitch. you move the item by hand to darn up a rip or hole. glenn
