TomE Report post Posted June 22, 2023 My workshop has no wall space - it's taken up by shelves filled with other "stuff." Decided I needed a better place to store my hand tools so I made a plywood A-frame and mounted it on a moving dolly. Now I need more tools to fill the other side of the A-frame. Klara Report post Posted June 22, 2023 (edited) This is a brilliant idea, thanks for sharing! I don't know yet what I'll be using it for, but I think some day I will... Btw, how do you feel about magnetic strips for knives? I believe they save a few seconds each time (because there is no need to remove a sheath). SUP Report post Posted June 22, 2023 @TomE That is a great idea! Wish I had the space for that. @Klara I just put up a magnetic strip for my knives last weekend and it is very convenient. Stuck on a couple of leather cutting scissors as well.

I generally leave the knife (covered) on my bench while working on a project so I don't need a quick-draw option. 5 hours ago, SUP said: @TomE That is a great idea! I'll still sorting out where I will store scissors, strap cutters, etc. They are in plastic tubs scattered around the edges of my shop. 1 hour ago, Gezzer said: Very clever Thanks. Simple enough that I could pull it off.
Klara Report post Posted June 22, 2023 You could add a tray at the bottom of the board (or the other side) for everything that doesn't conveniently fit under a strip of leather (or on a magnetic one). I have magnetic strips in the kitchen for my knives and in the workshop for everything.
dikman Report post Posted June 22, 2023 Great idea - unfortunately, not only have I run out of wall space but floor space too!

Thinking the magnetic strips would be good for storing harness needles. 3 hours ago, dikman said: Great idea - unfortunately, not only have I run out of wall space but floor space too! Actually, what I am thinking of is probably more a ledge than a tray: A strip of (ply)wood the width of the board just wide enough for a strap cutter, with maybe a low edge all around to stop things from falling off. Something like this but wider, not so high and of course you don't need the backboard but can put it directly on your A-frame.

A professor I had in college told me stuff expands to fill the space available. Yup, and then some!
dikman Report post Posted June 24, 2023 Wepster, your professor is very astute - and correct! Klara, do I see a Tortie watching you? We've had a couple of tortoiseshell cats and there's something inherently cheeky about them. TomE, don't feel jealous - I just need a bigger shed (not going to happen, unfortunately). Klara Report post Posted June 25, 2023 Cheeky is a nice way of saying it... Gaia is demanding and has no respect at all. Things are to be done her way, right now and she'd love to terrorize everybody. Except I refuse to be (unlike the dog, who is wary of her).

If you can slip in a few photos, I'd enjoy seeing the dogs and how they're harnessed. Like Gaia, our barn cats are top of the food chain around here.
