Needle rubbing

Recommended Posts

I bought an Adler 30-1 got it home and set it up with a # 22 needle and I believe 68 thread. I used this to sew a couple of scabbards fine. I was wanting a heavier thread for these scabbards

Put I think it was 277 thread with a # 25 needle. It picked up the bobbin thread fine but sewing it was breaking thread.

I Played with the tension too but then noticed the needle was rubbing the hole going into the bobbin. Changed back to a 22 needle and lighter thread and same thing . Don’t see any way to adjust so needle lines up. I pulled the plate out of the way and it is rubbing on the front of the hole in the arm. It has to be something simple, here are a couple of pics

My best suggestion is that there is something stuck in the needle mounting hole (where the shank of the needle sits)- It could be some small debris, it doesn't take much to get the needle out of alignment.

My reasoning is that it sewed fine on your first attempt, so I doubt that it is something that has been bent.

Try to take out the needle and spray some brake cleaner into the hole, perhaps try to use an interdental toothbrush at the same time. Or if you can take of the needle mounting part (I can do that on my Singer patchers), then you can clean it thoroughly.

Good luck  :-)

@FSForgeThe largest thread I would recommend for this machine is size#138.There is a screw above the screw that holds the needle in that allows you to move the needle clamp left to right, just loosen & adjust as needed.

The Adler 30-1 is NOT meant to sew with anything thicker than #138 bonded thread.
