x546JP Report post Posted May 17 (edited) What tool either doesn't exist but you wish it did, or is way to expensive? Also, what tool do you find the most difficult to use? Perhaps a template or tool guide that would make your work easier, but as far as you know doesn't exist. Edited May 17 by x546JP

My Boss came with a metal stem split on the end and goes in a drill to wind bobbins. Easy to use and 20 plus years later I have still never used the built in bobbin winder on a machine. x546JP Report post Posted May 18 My interest, in addition to leathercraft, is in hand tool modifications and innovations. As such, I asked the question. Leather tools in general are interesting given the ingenuity and creativeness that makers of tools have shown over the history of the craft. I am just looking for the tool that has yet to be made. I'd like a bobbin winder for the Tippmann Boss bobbins. Its incredible that you pay $1000 for a machine and they give you an aluminium bar to use in your hand drill with the bobbins. I know that due the way the machine works you can't have a machine mountable the way you can with other machines. Even if they offered a winder as an extra it would be worth buying mmmmm, I wonder if a small fixed spool fishing reel can be adapted??

Interesting idea, I don't see why not (the little closed-face casting reels come to mind). I guess it just depends on a) how handy you are at fabricating things and b) how much time you're prepared to put into it.

Some tools like the Swivel Knife Bevelers and back bevelers are really good in plastic and I do make those. I just wanted to get myself and others to think about it. I am always interested in making tools more accessible and easier to use. The cost of leather tools can be a little much for some crafters. I loved the winder that fits a hand drill. Ordered a couple more winders as spares. I tension the thread between two fingers and can go back and forth to level wind bobbins like an old bait casting reel. I tried the bobbin winder on my 205-64 and Ferdco 2000 and still liked my hand wounds better. same on the 1245. My wife has a Cobra 26 and I wind all her bobbins by hand drill. Would not go back. Everyone is different but that’s just me.

A follow up; I bought a small fixed spool reel and the idea would work, but the reel's line section has to match the bobbin thread section. I went to an angling shop and the chap there helped me search out a reel. We found a few. But I can't afford to buy it for about 7 days, when I get some pay in Continued on Edited June 5 by fredk

Mulesaw Report post Posted June 5 I would like a needle bender/grinder. So that if you got your hands on an old sewing machine with some out of stock needle system, you could make your own needles. For instance the Junker & Ruh SD28 hand outsole stitcher needs some special needles that are next to impossible to come by. I know that the machine would probably be expensive, but the idea of a dealer being able to make a few special needles, even for curved needle machines out of some stock steel appeals to me.
