medion Report post Posted September 28 (edited) Hi all, I am looking at this Pfaff 145 for my father in law - I cannot for the life of me work out why the hook is not doing full rotations. I'm not familiar with this machine, and I was hoping someone could take a look at the following two videos and possibly provide some insight? I understand the throat plate needs to be in place for it all to function, however I've taken a video with and without to try and illustrate the issue: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/b5cdijblzmo7e3nyp4diu/IMG_3732.MOV?rlkey=ewo531ra41pzn97x6ypz0w283&dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/49sz9e76468dgcoe75aga/IMG_3734.MOV?rlkey=6mz092r091xtutxzlwq87som2&dl=0 Edited September 28 by medion
Constabulary Report post Posted September 28 I would guess some set screws on the hook driving gears are loose. I´d tilt back the machine and check what is doing on the in drive train when turning the hand wheel.
fibersport Report post Posted September 28 Could the safety clutch do that if there is a bunch of thread wound up around the bobbin holder? My guess a good cleaning and adjustment is all it needs.

If your machine is a Model C or D machine it has a safety clutch. Try resetting the safety clutch. Another problem could be the screws came loose and it put the bobbin gear messing off or a broken tooth. kgg
medion Report post Posted Sunday at 01:13 PM Thanks everyone - it was the safety clutch being activated because the hook could not rotate due to being jammed deep underneath with thread and having no oil after sitting for a long time. I was able to pry it apart, clean, oil and then it all started working again and I was able to continue on doing some pre-war vehicle upholstery repairs. Thank you! fibersport Report post Posted Tuesday at 11:28 AM Glad it was simple! I had a 145 but was able to find a 545 very close to home in better shape. Finding a newer 1245 would be my ultimate machine. Overall they are built like tanks, once you set them up they go for ever.
