Need help with Adler 167 Maschine fixing bobbin bar

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I bought a old Adler leather Maschine at a Atelier closing which need for my studies… it’s been standing for some years so I bought it without really being able to try it out( it was quite cheap).

after trying it out I noticed that the bobbin is not turning. Turning the Handweel (which was already very hard) only makes the metal bar in part 2 turn ( referring to the picture provided) the longer bar and everything after is not turning. I tried turning it by force thinking it’s stuck but even after turning it by hand a couple times it didn’t change. I also tried opening the two bolts (2nd picture) but they are too stuck to move. Before I have to carry my machine to the mechanic I thought maybe someone else had had this problem with older, longer not been used Maschines and can help me. I’m usually quite handy and fix all my mashines myself but I’m out of ideas here… thankfull for any help! Thanks

I got 1 question. When you turn the hand wheel? Does the connecting belt on the right side turn with the hand wheel?

I am no sewing machine mechanic. But I am Diesel technician.

Thanks.

I circled it in blue. Does that turn with the hand wheel?

BTW - the timing belt appears to be in bad shape form what I see it should be replaced.

Looks like the safety clutch is engaged but maybe it disengaged for some reason anyway this is how to engage it again:

The safety clutch has to be tripped.

would agree to tripped clutch but you see the ball in the small window so just from the picture I´d say it is engaged.

Thank you ! The timing belt definitely need to be replaced…unfortunately the video only talks about how to fix the clutch problem while the long bar is already turning. Which mine it’s too hard to turn in the first place. Also the bolt that are being loosened in the video  (my second picture) I still didn’t manage to loosen them. I’ll probably have to buy a perfect screwdriver for that exact stew because it keeps bouncing out. I do think loosening it may help with the problem so I will keep trying. Thanks again!

if you think something is stuck around the hook mechanism, , I would first:

- remove the bobbin and the hook, and check what is going there, you do it from the top

If the screws 1 (there are two of them) don't wanna move you can achieve similar (disengaging the hook) by either:

- loosening bolt 2 (they are on both sides) and then you can slide the whole hook/bobbin assembly away from the lower clog wheel

- or loosening bolt 3 (there are two of them), than you can freely rotate without engaging the hook

Doing anything of this, you will have to re-time your machine. And to time it, you need to be able to manipulate those parts (all the screws on the picture). Yes, you need the right screwdriver. Striping the screws will send you on the mission of where to buy them. You can guess how I know it :))) Get the exploded view of your machine and check how it works.

btw. I don't own Adler, but my Pfaffs 1245 and 142 look very similar at least in this part.

have you taken out the bobbin case to see if old thread has compiled and blocks it? could also be that the bobbin case opener and tab on bobbin case block each other. Please post pictures for the hook era.
