For me, costs are only one part of several. I want to know what the quality of the tanning process is for the quality / grade of the hide (holes, range or bug bite marks), evenness of color, how well it tools, takes dye, the temper or firmness of the hide, tightness of grain, and other expected but often overlooked check boxes of leather. I've purchased and used a variety of leather hides from mystery non-USA hides that my local chain leaTher store had on sale one time that smelled like they were cured and tanned in urine and were very dehydrated to quality leathers from W&C and H.O. What makes this source a competitor in the leather craft market for us? Why should we try it, sight unseen and with no confirmed users? How often can the quantity and the quality be resupplied? If I buy from W&C or H.O. I know I can get the same quality, color and consistency each time. So, is this from a tannery that rivals those available in the U.S. or well-known and established tanneries in other parts of the world? Convince me. Edited January 14 by GoldenKnight Quote
Members SUP Posted January 14 Members Report Posted January 14 It matters not a whit where the leather is tanned. Good and bad leathers are found from all over the world. @hamim how are you going to convince leather purchasers that your leather is, in fact, of comparable quality to the leathers available here from all over the world? That will be the deciding factor, is it not? Not where it is sourced from. For all the naysayers, there will be others who have no problem buying from the East, provided the quality is guaranteed and consistent. Quote

You would be more likely to get info from the OP than by quoting me. So you should tag the OP so he/she gets a notification. I have no information to share with you, nor to answer your questions. @hamim You have some questions to reply to. Quote
Members GoldenKnight Posted January 22 Members Report Posted January 22 Hi Northmount, I thought the OP would be included with the feedback from my $0.02 on the topic. I was merely clarifying a view many of us share on this topic and thought your comment was on point. I'm not really great with the computer stuff, so I didn't realize he wouldn't see this. Sorry for any system jam up. Thanks for the heads-up. I'd still be curious about the leather, if those concerns and questions could be accurately answered. On the weather side, it's a cold one out there today folks. Good day to stay inside and craft. Quote

It would be nice to get his feedback. He/she hasn't been back here since Dec 11. So I suppose we won't get any more info from the OP. @hamim Quote
