Members Leathershark Posted Saturday at 11:38 PM Members Report Posted Saturday at 11:38 PM I bought a brand new Techsew SK -5 skiver. Delivered yesterday. All arrived good as far as shipping, no damage.I un packed the item, the stand and motor were all new. I then un packed the Skiver and noticed the black v belt was frayed and chunks were out of the belt. Upon further inspection, the sharp stone was used. the inside of the machine was dirty from the belt dust. The post was scratched and chipped. The belt that runs the grinder was also coming apart. one of the caution stickers on the outside had oil soaked on it. Looks like they sent me a used or a returned machine, not new as ordered for the $2680.00 I paid for it incl shipping. What do you guys think I should do about this? Of course by the time I found this out they were closed for the weekend so I could not call them. Tough to send it back as it is a heavy item and needs a lot of special packing, and who pays for it? My idea was to ask for the used belts and grinding wheel to be replaced and discount the item to me since it is used and not new. Any Ideas? will send pictures for you to see if you think it is used. You should resize your photos to 800 pixels in the longest dimension. That will provide good detail, fill most screens, and be small files so you can still post all these files in one post. Quote
Members TomE Posted Sunday at 12:31 PM Members Report Posted Sunday at 12:31 PM Several years ago, I bought a used SK-4 with the vacuum system and have been very pleased with it. I think you have a good plan to ask for the replacement parts and a partial refund - and maybe some free accessories. I would get it set up, sharpen the knife, and check that everything is in working order before negotiating with Techsew. I swapped out some parts on my bottom feed skiver in order to skive heavier leather. I switch out the feed roller for heavy vs thin leather. Quote
Members dikman Posted Sunday at 10:23 PM Members Report Posted Sunday at 10:23 PM I would say it's up to them to reach an agreement you're happy with. Complete replacement or full refund at their cost or, as suggested, replacement parts and partial refund. I know here in Oz consumer laws are on the buyer's side in such a case. Quote

As a moderator, I check lots of posts and have advised many members the resolution they should post at. It works. This is what happens with some of the small photos you posted when viewed using Windows 11 Pro and Firefox browser. Quote
