Members andrsn Posted April 17 Members Report Posted April 17 I cannot, for the life of me, figure out if I can adjust where the needle on this machine lands (fore & aft). Currently, when I have the stitch length set to the maximum, the needle hits the back of the presser feet I have (see first image below). I removed the Needle Bar & Presser Foot Bar - both are straight. The needle is new. Are the 2 lower screws (below the tensioner) in the 2nd image used to adjust the feed location? I can't find anything online regarding this issue. Last option is just to file the presser foot slots to be longer.... not the worst, just would rather repair/adjust if possible. The presser feet are not original and it seems hard to find originals online (just lots of options claiming to be compatible) Quote
CowboyBob Posted April 17 Report Posted April 17 Yes,there's not many different types of feet out there for a needlefeed. It would be best to file it. Quote Bob Kovar Toledo Industrial Sewing Machine Sales Ltd. 3631 Marine Rd Toledo,Ohio 43609 1-866-362-7397
Members nylonRigging Posted April 17 Members Report Posted April 17 So you saying have 2 issues ? Your needle not entering cleanly with the Feed Dog needle slot. hitting the Dog on it Walk/stroke? . Also Needle is banging the top of Press Foot ? If your machine sews great laying down stitches. and as long as your Needle stroke is timed well with entering Feed Dog ?. My 1st 'guess' off top of my head .. is You have Max out to far SPI, stretching out the stitch length, more than machine is capable . Or.. The Press Foot is not the proper length with it's needle slot to short length .? Slot is to short to match your your needle bars walk/stroke lenth. . Quote

I can get the Needle and the Feed Dog Needle Slot aligned perfectly, Needle enters in the center at the beginning of the stroke and leaves from the center at the end of the stroke. The only issue is the needle hitting the top of the presser foot. If I reduce the stitch length, it's fine. The issue just happens when i set the stitch length to 4 (maximum on the dial). Quote
Members Constabulary Posted April 18 Members Report Posted April 18 I would guess your foot is for a plain strait stitcher. What number has it? Needle feed feet usually have a longer slit. You can extend the slit on yours with a file or dremel (or similar) or buy a needle feet foot. F.i. check the College Sewing UK Website, they have a section for needle feed feet but should get the feet elsewhere too: https://www.college-sewing.co.uk/parts-by-type/needle-feed-lockstitch-feet.html BTW your top top thread path is wrong, you have left out the hook. The foots 'shank angle forward' and hinge be totally out factory spec. That aftermarket mass produced generic Foot probably runs like a champ on a drop-feed with zero needle-bar walk/swing. but you stick it on a needle-feed motion and you are screwed. Also, forget about the Dial SPI numbers. what does the actual SPI Stitch per Inch measure on the material ? . I don't have a Juki DLN needle-feed , but I have a Juki LH needle-feed and the most I can stretch out is 5 per inch on thin material. Reminder of.. that it a pendulum/swing walk with the needle bar, so thinner material will give you a Max. on the SPI. . Quote
Members andrsn Posted April 18 Author Members Report Posted April 18 Thanks for the help everyone. I got it threaded correctly now and it's sewing alright, just need to get my tensions perfect and I think I'll be good. I had wondered if the aftermarket slot length was the issue the whole time, I'm just going to file the feet when/if I need to and not worry about what the dial numbers say. Excited to get this machine up and running! Quote
