Guest Report post Posted April 2, 2007 Great stuff Beeze. I like them both. Cool carving and tooling on the first one and a really unique look to the second. Nice work buddy! Dave Theobald
The Major Report post Posted April 3, 2007 Very nice work. The one you posted that is finished, is that the pan that is laced or did you cover it with a metalic leather? Can't quite tell. Nice look either way. Did have a question, does anyone know of a good resource for identifying OEM seats and matching bikes to them. I had a friend pick up a couple seats he saw at a garage sale for me to recover. The original owner knew nothing about them. I have identified one of them as a seat off a Ducatti SS750 for sure, because I have recovered a few of them in the past. Now this one has got me stumped. I think I have narrowed it down to either a Boss, or a sportster, but it seems to large for a sportster. Any thoughts?
Roger Report post Posted April 5, 2007 thanks for the comments guys!!! i have the first one about finished up and will post a pic of it in the next day or so. i have also installed a polymer insert to give the rider a bit more comfort the second seat is a brushed aluminum pan. it was left bare with a triple loop stitch done around the edge. it was the look the customer wanted. i am also finishing up a set of leather covered grips to go with it. the major... i can't really help with id-ing old seats. most of what i work on are custom pans. if you think it's a harley pan and too large for a sporty, it may be for an fxr or fxd

I am really just thinking of recovering it and using it as a sample when I do shows. Pictures don't do things justice sometimes.
Roger Report post Posted April 5, 2007 Thanks for the thoughts. I am really just thinking of recovering it and using it as a sample when I do shows. Pictures don't do things justice sometimes. any time! pics never do them justice. i always get emails after customers receive thier seat back about how much better it looks in thier hands. samples..... i don't have the time for them and don't do any shows. i haven't had time to make a seat for myself till last year and it was very simple. i hope to have the time to rewok it this spring. i was just telling someone... i still wear a store bought belt cause i just don't have the time to make on for myself
Art Report post Posted April 5, 2007 Nice tribute to Larry Desmedt too, you got him permanently riding, where he'd want to be. Art here are a couple i've been working on.
The Major Report post Posted April 5, 2007 i was just telling someone... i still wear a store bought belt cause i just don't have the time to make on for myself I thought I was the only one. Its funny. I finally got around to making a cell phone case for myself, had it for about a week, and someone made me an offer above my normal selling price for it, so I sold it. abn Report post Posted April 5, 2007 i was just telling someone... i still wear a store bought belt cause i just don't have the time to make on for myself Funny you fellas should mention this... I set aside this past month of January to build myself a wallet, keycase, key fob and belt. I was always hesitant to mention to folks that I was a leatherworker for fear that they would point at my Wal-Mart belt and ask, "Is that one of yours?" Now that I'm wearing my own stuff, I feel a little bit better about talking leather, especially since I always have a sample around my waist or in my pocket. Plus, it's good to treat ourselves to something nice every once in a while, right? p.s. Really nice work, Beez. Spectacular.
Roger Report post Posted April 5, 2007 thanks for the compliment abn. i guess it's a matter of priorities... any time i have for leather, i pretty much spend on customer's stuff. i will have to break down and make myself a belt soon. i want to make a linned belt and saddle stitch it so, it will take quite a bit of time. i did have my father make a new jaw for my stitching pony. he made it about 20 years ago and the original jaws were small and shallow. i had him add quite a bit of depth and the clamping area is now about 6" instead of the 3.5". anyway.... i need to make a new strap it before i can use it. here is the skull seat finished up. ClayB Report post Posted April 6, 2007 I really like the way that seat turned out. I like the pattern, how the leather looks ripped open with the carving inside. I also like how you colored it, leaving the more natural colored leather showing. I think the contrast with the black really makes it stand out. All you seat makers continue to impress me each time you share pictures. Clay
Roger Report post Posted April 9, 2007 thanks clay! it was originally going to be all black and i think that would of been ashame. i talked him into leaving natural. i try to improve somewhere with each project i do. i have a couple tool bags to work on and then it's back to seats!
