Thin wallets?

I've been seeing a LOT of these "minimalist" wallets. Screenshot added for reference. Not my style, I'd probably never build one, but how in the hell do they make them so thin?

I'm obviously doing something wrong because my wallets are fat. Well, comfortably plump. This is 4 layers in the pic, and it looks like barely 1/8" thick. I understand it's pretty thin leather, but is there a certain way to cut the pockets? On the edge of the stack, it only appears to be 1 or 2 layers thick.

The guys & gals making thin wallets will skive all the edges of the card pockets & the edges of the main body of the wallet to achieve a thin wallet. 

Certain card pockets shapes also help with keeping the wallet thin.

I use kangaroo  leather,  the hides are around   .8mm thick. 

I don't bother skiving . I make those wallets   with and  without  a flap .

A some of the wallets people show me at the markets have just about everything  but the kitchen sink in them,  and are so thick stuffed so full, and they  wonder why they  fall apart .

The ' minimalist ' wallets seem quite popular , fit neatly into pockets.. Good choice 👌

I just bought a kangaroo hide. Wow. Although a little pricey, this is going to be a game changer for my wallets! Great stuff, and I haven't even used it yet!

Did you take that kangaroo hide Ferg had for sale? I bet that's a fantastic hide.  My wallets usually feel chunky, too. That .6mm kangaroo might be the ticket.

I took one of his other hides, the first cordovan one, and what a beautiful piece of leather. I need to come up with a worthy project.

He listed a green kangaroo hide and it disappeared right away. All that stuff looks top notch and Ferg is great to deal with. I've bought things from him a couple of times now
