Very good (great) match in styling.

Also, pardon my ignorance: Is a sporran a man purse? If not, what is the purpose?

Aaron

Sporrans are commonly worn with kilts. Kilts do not have pockets. They are typically worn centered in the front at waist level. There are both formal and everyday wear sporrans.

While watching the Tattoo, I noticed the black and white hairy thing they wore just below waist level and I'd like to know if that is also a Sporran? And what would they carry in that?

Tony.

The balck n White hairy thing is a sporran, and yeh a man purse but I wouldnt say that to a scotsmans face. In my sporran I keep what most scots keep in their sporran. Wallet and hipflask(good malt).

It is usually horse hair, these are classed as military dress sporrans, military day sporrans are leather with regimental badge on front.

The sporrans you saw at the Tattoo were out of horsehair and were mostly for show. Not much use. The sporrans like Scottishshoemaker made are roomy and made to be used every day. A lot of guys are wearing kilts and sporrans on a daily basis now. Just go drop in on kiltsrock.com and brouse!

they also keep your kilt "down in front" so you don't become a "floor show"

(not that I don't like a good floor show once in awhile >giggle<)
