Johanna Report post Posted March 26, 2009 Paul Zalesak (pabloz) and his Leather Wranglers company (makers of the special swivel knives that come in pretty colors!) sponsored a contest at Wickenburg this year. Hidepounder got the prizes, but all of the entries were pretty special. Take a look: http://www.leatherwranglers.com/contest.html Congratualtions to everyone who entered- and wow, just wow, HP! I enjoy looking at your work! The second place bird is my favorite. Johanna

CitizenKate Report post Posted March 27, 2009 Stunning! ...and humbling. Another thing on my list of things to learn to do better. Hmmm... it's getting to be a pretty long list. Kate
Talfuchre Report post Posted March 27, 2009 That is really amazing. Was all of the work done with JUST a swivel knife? Amazing. I think I like the design on #2 more - but #1 has such a perfect technique. I have no clue how he did it! TF
ClayB Report post Posted March 27, 2009 That's some pretty impressive swivel knife work Bob!!! Wonder how many more years of practice it will take till I am anywhere near that good.
gtwister09 Report post Posted March 27, 2009 Bob's work is always absolutely top notch. Looking at all the pictures from both contests, his entries are STILL the top ones. As always a Bob-fan Regards, Ben

Bree Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Well Bob smokes the competition and sweeps all the top awards!! Yet another swivel knife is added to his already huge collection and once again I am left speechless by his incredible skill and finesse. The man is AWESOME. What is a body to do?? I think I am going down to the shop and turn a wooden pen!!

Go2Tex Report post Posted March 29, 2009 Ditto all of the above. Very fine work. It must have been hard to pick the winner with so many good pieces. I have one of Paul's knives and I use it everyday and love it. My biggest problem is trying to decide which blade to use!

Thanks, Tina Tina, Sorry for taking so long to answer you...I was out of town for a week. the knives I use the most are...a 3/8" Henley with a Bob Beard 1/4" angled HG blade...a Bob Beard 1/2" custom made knife with a 1/2" HG straight blade...a 5/8" custom made Bob Beard with a 5/8" straight HG blade...a 3/8" Henley with a 1/4" low angle, shallow bevel blade by Peter Main...and a 1/2" Henley with a 3/8" HG straight Henley blade. I am very impressed with the 1/4" angled blade from Paul also. Bob Edited April 6, 2009 by hidepounder

They allowed us to use a smooth beveler, a mules foot and a veiner. All the shadiing you see on the skull, such as in the eye sockets, etc., is done by cross hatching with very fine cuts to create the illusion of shadow.
