Members bigorange Posted April 18, 2009 Members Report Posted April 18, 2009 I have been working on blending color tones to come up with a sunburst appearance similar to some guitar bodies,, pay no attention to the stamping Quote
Members CitizenKate Posted April 18, 2009 Members Report Posted April 18, 2009 That's a neat effect! How did you do it? Kate Quote
Members bigorange Posted April 18, 2009 Author Members Report Posted April 18, 2009 (edited) Hi Kate, After tooling I de-glazed the leather, I layed down the tiger stripe pattern in dark tan. then shot it with yellow, complete. I thined red and added some yellow to get the burnt orange tone and went arount the edge, a little beyond the tooled border, and finally shot the edge with mahogany, all are fiebings alcohol dye, finished off with leather balm atomic wax. I used an Iwata hp-c airbrush with about 35-40 psi of air so not to send any globs of dy just a well atomized mist. the tiger stripe would have looked better black. as a houskeeping effort I drew all the dye I used with hobby syringes this cuts down on the mess one can make with this kind of thing. and I used a medication dose cup for mixing Give it a try as I would like to hear what you think All the best Bo Edited April 18, 2009 by bigorange Quote
