cem Report post Posted March 8, 2008 I quite like the pebbler effect some of the guys are using on their motorcycle seats so I was just wondering where do I get one I've gone through all the posts that mention them but can't find a number or what brand they are. Are they by Craftool or one of the specialist tool makers. Thankyou for your help Cheers, Clair

whinewine Report post Posted March 8, 2008 Hidecrafters also has a similar, but very different set of tools. Tandy's is the E294 series, Hidecrafters is listed under their Pro-crafter's line. Look under both websites under their stamping tools. Hidecrafters' tools give an actual pebble effect, whereas Tandy's tends to be more of a depressed, rather than a raised, effect. JohnD Report post Posted March 8, 2008 (edited) Robert Beard makes them, Google either his name or pro tools. I think they run around $50 a pop. EDIT: Sorry, pro series tools. http://robertbeardtools.com/Matters.html scroll dow the page a bit, They're $60 each. I believe he makes them as he goes too so there might be a wait. Roger Report post Posted March 8, 2008 (edited) the pebblers i have are from hidecrafters.. the "pro crafter" series. from what i understadn, they were designed by robert beard. hope to be able to get a set from him some day. i have the tandy tools also. the give a nice texture but, not a pebble effect. if you look at the last seat i did i used both tools. the pebbler around everything and the tandy tools on the devil wing here is a closeup of what the tandy background tools do. they give a nice texture but, don't give the pebble effect Edited March 8, 2008 by beezachoppa
bruce johnson Report post Posted March 8, 2008 Normally I am a guy who prefers specialization. I let the tool makers make the tools, I buy them and then use them. More efficient use of time usually. Probably 10 years ago at least I needed the pebble tool to duplicate a piece for a repair. At that time Bob was the only one making them, and was out about 4-5 months on making me any. He told me "any idiot" can make those. Take a flat head bolt and grind around on the head to make the shape you want. Then take grinding burrs on a dremel and make depressions of random sizes, shapes, and depths. I made a couple and they came out pretty well. Not a lot of time involved either on those. I know there are some do-it-yourself stampmakers on the forum, and this is one of those that is pretty straightforward to make.
Roger Report post Posted March 8, 2008 i have a box of stainless nails but, have not taken the time to try and make pebblers. i'ed really like to come up with a different pattern. i think about it now and then but, really like the crisp effect the pebblers give

cem Report post Posted March 9, 2008 Cool Thankyou Beeza and the rest of you guys, does Hidecrafters ship overseas ? For Tandy stuff I once went to order from them but they took nearly two weeks to acknowledge my order so went with Bearcreek Leather as it only took a week from ordering to getting my stuff with them, so I'm going to see if Bearcreek have them. Cheers, Clair
Leather Bum Report post Posted March 12, 2008 (edited) I'm pretty sure Hidecrafter does ship overseas, though I don't know for sure. As I understand it, the Pro Crafter pebblers Hidecrafter sells are specially made for them. Cheers, Clair Clair where are you? I know that http://www.thebeargallery.de/index.htm is a hide crafter dealer overseas. Doris and Rene should have some of the pebble tools from Hide Crafter. Robert Beard of Pro Series tools also ships overseas. but he does have a back log of tool orders since he custom makes every tool to order. www.robertbeardtools.com
cem Report post Posted March 16, 2008 Hi Anne, I'm in Western Australia I had a look at Hidecrafters website and it looks like Birdsall Leatherworks is an Australian distributor. I have actually just ordered dye from them but forgot to ask about the pebblers so I'm going to do that Monday as they don't seem to have them listed on their website. anne newkold Report post Posted March 19, 2008 I have a set of them from Robert Beard of Pro Series tools which is where the master set came from that Hide Crafter made their version of the set from. I love them. The tools are very easy to run. You just randomly turn the tools as you cover the area the you are wanting to fill. Robert has two versions of this tool. A pebble tool that all the pebbles are of similar size and the combo pebble tool that they are a variety of mixed sizes on the tool face. Robert is hoping to have pictures of all of his tool impression in the catalog by the end of the year.
electrathon Report post Posted March 19, 2008 I got my set yesterday from Hidecrafters. Played with them a little last night. I like the look, and they are easy to run.
