I am just curioius who you guys buy your herman oak from I only need one or two sides. I looked through weavers catalog and they seeem like they are a little proud but I might be wrong. If you could let me know who your favorite vendors are that would be great.

Thanks

Hello,

For what it's worth, I have it for 4.79 ft at the moment. It won't be #1 at that price, but it's pretty good for the money I think. That makes a 22 ft side around 105.00.

pretty much any weight. We sell a ton of it! :)

I just placed an order for #2 HO (6-7oz) from Stevenson-Paxton in California for $99 a side. I believe we got a break since four + side were order4ed at $89/side. Good luck

Hi Jed,

For what it's worth, Hermann Oak, and Wickett both tan really good leather. Those hides are tanned in pits. And the tanner doesn't know what grade of leather that he has, until he takes the hide out of the pits, dries them, and inspects them. In other words, Grade A leather and grade XX (Bad) are exactly the same leather. the grading factors are surface blemishes, and butcher cuts, and grain damage. You can pay a lot of money for a grade A hide, and you should get a hide that is pretty much blemish free. But on the other hand, you might pay 1/2 as much for a D, or C grade hide, and only have to deal with a few small surface defects. If you're a holster maker, you probably can cut around a scratch or two and still not have any excess waste. Of course, if you're a belt maker, and theres a 2 ft vertical open scar in the hide, that might make a difference. But the leather is still actually the same quality. You're sort of paying for cleanliness! :) Just thought you might like to know!

I've been buying my leather from Dave at Stevenson-Paxton for some time now, at $99 a hide. My customers like the blemishes that the #2 leather has. It gives it character, they say. Dave sends it out real quick and I get it in 2 or 3 days. One time I was forced to buy from Goliger because Dave had no leather in stock. The side cost me 50% more, it was considerably smaller, it had big holes in it, and it took a week to get here. I'm sticking with Dave!
