Ambassador abn Posted March 10, 2008 Ambassador Report Posted March 10, 2008 I've wanted to build a small notepad for some time now. Seeing other folks recently post some really nice examples just got me more interested! So, here's what I came up with. It holds a small 3x5" pad and sports two pockets and a slot for business cards. Thanks for looking! Alex ^_^ Quote

Members Spider Posted March 10, 2008 Members Report Posted March 10, 2008 (edited) That sure is a sweet notebook. What did you stitch it with? I like the contrasting stitching. Ambassador abn Posted March 10, 2008 Author Ambassador Report Posted March 10, 2008 Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Much appreciated. That sure is a sweet notebook. What did you stitch it with? I like the contrasting stitching. Spider, I use Tandy's waxed nylon thread -- the color you see here is "natural" (1205-04). Quote
Members tazzmann Posted March 10, 2008 Members Report Posted March 10, 2008 I would also like to throw in that it looks very nice! Simple, yet elegant! Great work! TomSwede Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 Nice work Alex! Love the neat little stuff you worked out on the corners. No carving and some cunning stamping makes such a clean and nice elegance. The button and string looks very nice also. The stitching stands out alot too, very clean and nice straight lines. You really enjoyed yourself over this one, it shows! Members SmilinJim Posted March 15, 2008 Members Report Posted March 15, 2008 Neat work Alex. Is it hand stiched? How do you keep it so nice and straight? Like the closure too. Quote

Hey, Jim -- thanks for the kudos. The notepad is hand-stitched, and I'm really not sure what the secret is to doing a clean saddle stitch. One thing I do differently from the recommended way is that I lay my project down on the table and punch all of the holes ahead of time. I never was able to figure out how to juggle two needles and an awl! That seems to help me control things, although it's a good bit slower... that is so cool!!!!! Thanks, L.C. That's nice of you to say. Quote

I think you would a gree that the key to good hand stitching is to use the wheel for proper spacing of the holes, and consistant angle of the awl as you stab your holes...please excuse my 2 cents worth... :angel_not: Quote Raybanwww.rgleather.net
Ambassador abn Posted March 18, 2008 Author Ambassador Report Posted March 18, 2008 I think you would agree that the key to good hand stitching is to use the wheel for proper spacing of the holes, and consistant angle of the awl as you stab your holes...please excuse my 2 cents worth... :angel_not: That advice is worth a lot more than two cents, and it's absolutely true.
