Members teamroper55 Posted November 4, 2012 Members Report Posted November 4, 2012 (edited) Bob, first off thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to respond to all of us. I saw that you apply your finish before you burnish so the saddle soap doesn't discolor the leather. I was wondering what your steps are when antiquing and edging Before I have been finishing my edge the finishing but I don't want to stain my leather with the soap. hidepounder Posted November 4, 2012 Author Report Posted November 4, 2012 My process doesn't change at all. I antique everything. I try not to get a lot of saddle soap build-up on the face of the leather, but when I do I just wipe it off with a damp cloth. An abundance of soap build-up will effect your antique, but otherwise I haven't had a problem. I use Fiebings paste antique but I can't comment on the other antiques. Possibly the saddle soap will affect them more, I don't know. Hope this helps! Bobby

Members kennyCQJ Posted August 9, 2013 Members Report Posted August 9, 2013 Bob thank you for the tutorial! One question, can i replace the paraffin with edge wax or anything else? Can't find a paraffin bar in singapore...
Members Andrew Chee Posted August 9, 2013 Members Report Posted August 9, 2013 Another question. What is the purpose of resolene or neat lac at the end of the process? Will it keep the fuzz from coming back? Andrew
Members ranchmom77 Posted August 12, 2013 Members Report Posted August 12, 2013 Thanks for your excellent tutorial Bob! I'm a newbie and working on my first project.. A bronc noseband. I used a piece of 5/6oz veg tanned leather and glued a piece of soft pigskin suede to the back to make it comfortable for the horse. I glued them together, then when I started the edges the suede wouldn't burnish with the leather. I used gum trag and a wheel but the suede pulled away from the veg tan.. What can I do about this. I was going to sew it after the edges were done. Thank you for your help! I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.. instead, God gave me life that I might enjoy all things.
