Hi everybody.

I am new to this forum.

I have done leather work off and on for quite a few years but have never (until Now) taken a serious interest.

A few weeks ago I went off the deep end and bought a leather sewing machine, and now I need to learn how to use it. I have been looking all over the web, but I have had no luck so far.

So if anyone has any idea where I can find instructional books or DVDs on the machine sewing methods I would appreciate your input.

BTW, this is a great site!

Thanks

Joel

Maybe, I have some info depending on what type of machine you got.

Hello Dink.

The machine I have is a Cobra class 4. I bought it from The Leather Machine Co. in Southern Ca.

I can work the machine in a straight line or curves, but I need some tips/info on techniques. How to use the different attachments, etc...

Thanks

Joel

First, welcome to the forum.

Second, Cobra Steve is a member here and hopefully he will come up and comment. If not, you can always send him a PM requesting the information you need. Or maybe Dink will be able to help you.

Good luck

Hi Joel, there are some books out there but most of them (that I know of) are for spcific categories, like Holster Making, or Saddle Making, I am not sure if there is a book on "General Leather Sewing", but if there is, I will do my best to find it. Thanks, Steve

I went through this a few years ago. I finally sewed up a lot of scrap I had laying around and was amazed how quickly I learned how to sew. PRACTICE, PRACTICE AND MORE PRACTICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Work with your machine, not against it. Best of Luck! Ken

Thanks Ken

Yeah,,, I have been sewing a lot of scrap.

But I'm really looking for some info that will help me sew a lot of good stuff

Actually the machine is doing great and doing what it is supposed to do. But I'm looking for info on 'how to do technique' with this wonderful machine. As I stated above. Books and DVDs with lessons.

Hi Steve!

Honestly I didn't know how to use a sewing machine until two months ago. I used to hand sew all of my leather! I got a cheapo $99.00 sewing machine and started practicing using it. It claimed to do light leather(very light I may add. LOL) Practice, practice, practice! I can't emphasize this! I started using Youtube and doing searches on leather sewing and sewing. Tons of stuff on there. Some stuff on leather sewing but more on regular sewing. It's a start and I hope this helps.

Enjoy!

GrampJoel;

I have a CD that Cobra Steve made, when he was with Artisan, regarding the Toro 3000 that may be able to help you. I would be more than happy to loan it to you for a week or so.

Just let me know.
