rcsaddles Report post Posted August 14, 2009 http://s604.photobucket.com/albums/tt129/r...nt=P1020378.jpg Here is a drawer handle I braided over for a lady. I know the lines are not perfectly straight and the buttons are out of shape but she loved it. She put it on the spice drawer in her kitchen. It is the only drawer that needs a handle, she did not like just regular handles so asked me to do this. A couple coats of Neat Lac when I was done and hopefully it will last. Opagon Report post Posted August 14, 2009 Very cool idea! I like it. How did you work around the screws? Heather
KarlB Report post Posted June 29, 2013 That's exactly what I'm trying to accomplish on my project at work!! Specifically, I need step=by-step instruction on how to fabricate the Turksheads at either end. No matter how I try, I always end up with a tangled mess! My braiding turned out alright, though. Even Bruce Grant's Encyclopedia doesn't help me... same for YouTube... any help would be GREATLY appreciated!! (Yes, I realize this is an older post, but I'm desperate! Thanks... HorsehairBraider Report post Posted June 29, 2013 KarlB... what I would suggest is to find someone relatively close, and pay them for lessons. What you are asking is impossible for me (personally) to do, because *I can't see you*. When I work with someone in person, it's really easy for me to see what the issue is. Online? Impossible for me. I have people call me on the phone or email me etc. No matter if you call or email me, I *STILL* can't see what you are doing. I would need to see you in person. So look around, maybe ask here, if there is someone who is somewhat close to you, contact them, and set up a working relationship. I think that is the best way to success, particularly if you are having difficulties.
KarlB Report post Posted June 29, 2013 Thank you for the reply, HorsehairBraider! I really could use some one-on-one lessons at this point. The frustrating part is that what I'm trying to do is a "SIMPLE" (!!) Turk's Head, and I know I'm missing something that should be completely obvious! Also, after this automotive project is done, I may not braid again for a very long time - my preference is in making holsters. Also, none of the tack shops I've visited around here (and it is QUITE a "horsey" area!) can give any suggestions - they're only salespeople. Oh, well, I'll just keep trying, and EVENTUALLY I will "get it!" Thanks again... KarlB

megabit Report post Posted July 1, 2013 Very cool
rcsaddles Report post Posted July 1, 2013 The turksheads were braided around a mandrel and then put on to the handle. Same with teh acrual braid covering the handle. The screws were just worked thru the braid to get them into the holes. KarlB send me a message on what it is you are trying to do and I will try to help you. I can send some instructions and such. Try braiding the turks head on a mandrel and then put it onto the project and tighten it.
