Old world Conchos from Hide House

I bought a few sets of old world rivet-back conchos from Hide House South. They're really awesome, I just have one question...how do I attach them?!

I suppose I should have asked when I ordered them, but I think someone here has used them before and could probably help.

I don't know but they sure look like you would attach them like a copper rivet. Did they come with burrs?

They're basically double cap rivet style, I just can't think of a good way to pound them down into place w/o damaging the concho.

Try making a thick "pad" (and solid, not just one or two layers of towel) out of some old towels - put the concho "pretty side down" on the towels

bang away.

Works for rinestones on fabric - don't know about leather stuff

The towel may work for some of the other conchos, but for the pointy spot styles, the spike setter from Tandy worked well.

Here what Hide House emailed me:

"Unfortunately there is currently no base or setter for these conchos other than your basic rivet setter. However, many of our customers have been using modeling clay such as Fimo to create their own bases to keep from marring the face during riveting. Simply knead the clay into a thick flat shape and press the concho directly into it so that the rivet stands striaght up. Then bake the clay as per the instructions on the packaging. Once cooled, this type of base seems to be able to withstand general riveting and saves the face from any damage."

I was thinking about ordering some of those rivets, but I'll pass.

Glue three or four pieces of 8/10 oz or thicker together so that it is a 1/4" thicker than the spike. Drill a hole in the leather the diameter of the spike. Set the leather on a piece of poundo board just in case, put the concho in place and set it like any other cap rivet.....
