leatheroo Report post Posted March 28, 2008 with over 200 ebay transactions under my belt, i am happy with most outcomes and have only had one or two go south! i recently ordered two nikon batteries for a friend for his $3000 nikon SLR. The batteries arrived but were not Genuine Nikon as advertised but some cheap chinese ones. I emailed the seller (powerseller with 99% good feedback) and explained the situation. he is happy to replace the batteries as he says they were sent by mistake. the thing is i have to send the cheapos back at my expense and he will then send the replacements. They have to be sent to hongkong which will only cost me about $10. i dont think i should have to pay for his mistake but if i dont send them back i will be out $100 and stuck with two batteries that dont even charge. Maybe if you replied with your concerns and sent them a photo of the cheapo's saying that it was their mistake and that you don't wish to pay to send them their rubbish back. You could be waiting a LONG time for the new ones, as I'm thinking that they may not be selling real Nikon batteries, and your the first to say something about it. Also, as OutBack has said, you can file a dispute with both E-Bay and PayPAl (if you used PayPal) to cnacel the transfer of your funds until this is settled. JRLeather2 Report post Posted March 28, 2008 (edited) My 2 cents, I had a dispute awhile back with some misrepresented earrings, I won the Paypal dispute, we both agreed to leave decent feedback, I did so, she slammed me. So I resorted to Squaretrade. They also found in my favor and did absolutly nothing about it! I paid them 40 bucks to tell me I was right! Whatever you end up doing, avoid Squaretrade at all costs! I'd probably end up sending them back but after reasoning with my friend in the matter. About cheapos, I use Soligor batteries for my Canon slr and they work fine. Art Report post Posted March 28, 2008 Hi Roo, You really need to stay away from the Hong Kong sellers. Some are reputable, but many are not, and they know they have you at arms length. Also, some products (I'm thinking some cameras) cannot be imported to the US and if they (Customs) should inspect, they will seize. Don't know if OZ has those kinds of restrictions. I almost always use PayPal or VISA for eBay stuff, PayPal does stand behind the transaction if they say they will (they may have a limit), and you can reverse a VISA charge with a phone call. Debit or check cards can be harder to reverse, sometimes impossible, and NEVER let them put an instant check through. You should have ACH transfers blocked on any account you use for commerce. Spencer G Report post Posted April 1, 2008 I tend to avoid eBay, especially for camera equipment, so I can't give any advise about how to deal with that. However, in regard to the batteries themselves, personally, I would buy the genuine, if more expensive, batteries. $89 may seem like a lot, but it's way less than replacing a $3000 camera when the cheap battery explodes, or leaks acid all in it.
