I recieved these photographs from John Herold Baggs, Wyoming who posted an ad on eBay. The cost to me was free and it happens to be his personal collection, but it was posted for collectors of Craft Tools. He also gave me permission to post the photographs here for all LW members and visitors.

If you want to drop him an email of "Thanks!" Make sure to let him know where you got the photographs for your resource library. I would encourage it. I did also invite him to join us since he is a leather crafter.

Hello everybody,

I finally made it here to the forum. To clarify things a bit on the Craftool Index: I compiled this from many old catalogs dating back to 1947. I originally did this so that I would have a referance to be used in my goal of collecting all of the vintage, that is pre 1963 non lettered Craftools. Originally I made the index in numerical order so that I could easily find what stamping tool was represented by each number that was given in Ebay auction descriptions. Last year I revised the index into one that shows a general grouping of the stamp types and "colorized the whole thing from black and white to a leather toned image. I truly believe this index has every stamping tool made by Craftool before 1967. It also has some other stamps such as the newer figure carving stamps, the heavier saddle stamp series, metal stamping tools, and Indian stamps. If anyone has a pre 1970 tool that I missed, please let me know. LOL I rather doubt that I missed any, but I don't rule the possibility out.

Like the man said, I did offer this index in a "dummy auction" for free and it kept me busy for a while answering all the requests. When he offered to post it here, I was very happy for him to do so. I do not have every tool shown in the index as I'm still looking for a few. I have purchased thousands of Craftools and other stamps on eBay and from other sources. I thus have a large stock of tools for sale or trade; sometimes I offer them on eBay under my seller name wy-slick (click on link to go to my ebay page). I am always willing to talk deal with others ouside of eBay, and forego eBay's BS and "cut"!!!! So if you are looking for a specific stamp, it doesn't hurt to ask. As for me I'm asking if anyone has a 983 or 984 narrowline pear shader that they are willing to part with.

I got to thinking that perhaps someone might be able to use the numerical sequanced index I mentioned above. So here it is. It is not as "pretty" as my grouped index as it is simply a rough guide that is useful in identifying a Craftool by it's number quickly. Being and earlier version, this will not have all of the tools that are in the grouped index. And again I ask: if anyone has a Craftool stamp that I have missed, please let me know.

Someday when I have the time I hope to make a better index by taking all on my tools and stamping them into leather and scanning the result.

Mjolnir131, click on the picture scroll down to bottom where it says save, cliick on save this will open the picture in a new window. Right click on the picture a menu will open scroll to save picture as left click select where you want to save the picture - pictures, desk top etc.
