Ambassador Luke Hatley Posted March 31, 2010 Ambassador Report Posted March 31, 2010 Hey guys, I want to use paraphin wax on my edges. Where can you buy that stuff? Your Local Grocery Store ...in the Canning Dept. Quote
Members whinewine Posted March 31, 2010 Members Report Posted March 31, 2010 One of the major brands is "Gulf Wax", made by Gulf Oil Quote
Members Tkleather1 Posted April 1, 2010 Members Report Posted April 1, 2010 I could not fing any at the local grocery store and had to go to a craft store such as micheals last time I bought any. Tim Worley TK-Leather Quote
Members jeeperaz Posted April 1, 2010 Members Report Posted April 1, 2010 One of the major brands is "Gulf Wax", made by Gulf Oil Just to confirm the other's suggestions. I just bought some last week at our local grocer next to canning items. Gulf Wax was the brand and it was something like $3-$4 Quote
Members Penden Posted April 1, 2010 Members Report Posted April 1, 2010 Not all grocery stores have a canning department, unfortunately. I would suggest an art store where they sell things to make candles. Michaels is ok but see if you can find a "real" art store where it might be cheaper. Craft stores are generally more expensive than "art" stores. Try some online places like blick Quote
Members particle Posted April 1, 2010 Members Report Posted April 1, 2010 I bought a HUGE block of it years ago at one of the hobby stores to make candles for my mom. Something like 12x18x2 inches. HUGE. I don't think the price was too crazy. Probably way more than you need though. Could you just buy a few plain, unscented, not-colored candles from the dollar store? Quote
Members bex DK Posted April 2, 2010 Members Report Posted April 2, 2010 As well as for canning, paraffin is also used to make dipping chocolate. I remember that from way-back-when before dipping chocolate caps were readily available. So places that supply candy people might have it. But most likely you need a larger grocery store or one oriented to a more old-fashioned clientele. Quote
Members andystevens Posted April 2, 2010 Members Report Posted April 2, 2010 I buy mine when I work up enough nerve to brave Wal-Mart and the brand I have found there is Gulf Wax. Quote
Members azrider Posted April 3, 2010 Members Report Posted April 3, 2010 Some of the hardware stores that have canning supplies also have it. I got mine at Ace. Quote
