New Machine Help?

I just got my new machine and there were no instructions included relating to the servo motor and drive. So here are my questions.

1. Why is it EXTREMELY hard to turn by hand with the belt on? ( such as when you want to lift the needle ) Is there a brake that needs ajusting? It drives fine with the motor. I tried to just put a little pressure on the foot pedal to see if it would release a brake, but it either drives the machine or seems to have a brake on. Should the motor turn when it is turned by hand? If there is a brake should it release even when the power ( red / green button )switch is off?

2. What is the plugin on the back of the motor case meant to be used for?

3. Why when I reverse it is there a bit of thread tangle on the bottom? I only reverse it when it is stopped.

There is an adjustable brake screw on the back of the servo motor (it may be inside the rear motor casing). It is secured by a lock nut and it is hard to turn, at first. I adjusted mine to give some foot movement before the motor engages. However, it does not give as much free movement as a clutch motor.

Hello Mary,Ok,I'll try to explain the best I can.

Any machine that has a speed reducer on it will always turn harder because your turning the motor 5x faster because of the speed reducer.The way to run it is when you get to the end slow down & learn to leave your foot off the pedal when the needle starts to go up so the needle will be @ the top so you can pull out your leather.

These new style of motors have an electronic not mechanical brake,there is no adjustment on them.

The stop when you take your foot off the pedal.

#2)The plug @ the back of the motor is for the light.

#3)Are you sure the thread is around the second tension on the side 1&1/2 times?

P.S.you don't need to stop to put it in reverse(if you don't want to),you can do it when you see the needle going in the leather @ the last stitch(rumnning slowly) & then push the stitch length lever up.

On the turning hard by hand I guess I got confused after reading a post by Jim saddler saying how easy Cowboy sew machines turn by hand. After checking I find that thread was started quite some time ago. And those machines probably had a different motor /drive system on them.

I find this to be a VERY GOOD machine, I am happy with it.

I do have one suggestion for the company, and that is to make up and include some instructions for the motor /drive system so buyers would know what they are meant to do and how they are meant to do it.
