Mike Report post Posted December 25, 2010 I first met Robb Barr when I took a class he and others hosted. I met him on other occasions as well. These knives were supposedly made to help defray the expenses of Robb's heart operation. Only 100 were made and most of those went overseas. I was able to buy number 87/100 when they went on sale. It's pretty and has a ton of sentimental value. But lets be practical, I have other good knives I am much more willing to use and the times are tough. Until I change my mind and take it off the market, I will accept $365 and that does include shipping and insurance. Mike

Ferg Report post Posted December 27, 2010 No responses. I guess I'll put it back in the drawer. Mike, Let's put it this way. One of the finest swivel knives available is a SK-3 for $135.00 ferg
Mike Report post Posted December 27, 2010 Mike, Let's put it this way. One of the finest swivel knives available is a SK-3 for $135.00 ferg I'm sure that's true. But then some would offer a lot of money for things like knives, mauls, patterns, and such just because they were fine when they were made and they ain't made no more. Limited editions even more so. Even if others just as good are available for less. Just my observation. Mike
MarkB Report post Posted December 28, 2010 Mike I would love to get it but you already got some of my money and I don't have enough to get it. Your right it is not just a swivel knife it is one that will not be made for a long time if ever. Good luck and can't wait to get those books from you. Mark Mike, My take on this was not that you shouldn't want the item but if it becomes a luxury of little to no use, the money is not worth it. Not unlike buying antiques ferg
Johanna Report post Posted December 28, 2010 Just a thought, Mike- have you contacted Bob Beard? I know he buys his tools back occasionally. Ferg, I'm not sure you understand that this knife is more of a collector item than a regular swivel knife. Are you familiar with Robb Barr's work? Bob made these knives to raise money to help a friend who needed medical care. The knives are quality tools, and people were glad to have a way to help a fellow leatherworker. Some of us are sentimental, and Robb had many friends. The real value to the knife is in the love and caring which inspired it. ~J
Mike Report post Posted December 30, 2010 Just a thought, Mike- have you contacted Bob Beard? I know he buys his tools back occasionally. ~J Johanna, Chuck Smith made these knives (basically a customized, limited edition Ol' Smoothie). I was told that Chuck was making a run of 100 of these knives and that half the cost was to raise money for Robb Barr's heart surgery. It features a wolf portrait done by Robb and his signature. It is also numbered. I really like Bob, have met him a few times, interviewed him once and have several of his tools. I haven't spoken to him in quite awhile. Bob used to make some customized knives but this is not one of them. Mike
