Timbo Report post Posted May 15, 2008 Well, it's a done deal. We have our house here in SW Missouri sold and leave Sunday to find a house in Colorado. After last weekends tornado's that only missed me by 3/4's of a mile........it's none too soon. Lived here all of my 44 years and can't get used to them. This one took a friend and lots of other friends homes. I guess it was just a positive affirmation that we are doing the right thing. I've already got a Tandy store spotted in Colorado Springs, does anybody know of any others in the area?? How about saddle makers?? We are all looking forward to the move and I am just trying to get the lay of the land for leatherworkers. Bummer is that I already have my leather shop packed so all projects have ceased for the time being with no idea of when I'll get my shop set up. Or where for that matter. Seems to be a lot of equestrian activities in the area, so hopefully I can establish myself and get some customers. I still have no idea of what I'll be doing for a living........if anything. I do have a line on a really sweet dream job, but don't want to jinx it at this point. It's one of those jobs that I have always dreamed about. The one thing I can guarantee is that I will never go back into the trucking field in any capacity...........15 years was enough. So in closing I guess I'll be absent for awhile, especially after we have the internet service shut off, move and find a new provider. (I'm really hoping for cable!!!) But, I'll probably be on here for another week to see who can give me some local tips. Thanks all!! Timbo
Jordan Report post Posted May 15, 2008 I know what you mean about trucking, it is a hard life on the road, especially if you have a family, won't go back to it, thats for sure. Good luck in Colorado, it is a beautiful place.

Timbo Tim, I moved from Colo Springs last summer and there is a good group of leatherworkers in the area. Dale, joet, Yaklady, are among some of the memebers in the area. There are two great leather guilds, Pikes Peak Pounders and Columbine Leather Guild. Kurt is the manager of the TLF in Colo Springs, then you have Brian in Littleton, Violeta in Westminster and Dennis in Denver. All are great managers and will be more than happy to welcome you to the area and help you with your leather purchases. I worked with Kurt and he is a goof ball and has great stories. For saddle makers Bob Brenner is in Colo Springs and he also is a great guy. I am not sure but I think he does leathercraft lessons for a fee. ClayM. Timbo Report post Posted May 15, 2008 Thanks for all the info guys!!! It will be a great start for me to have some names to make contact with. Jordan, I wasn't a driver, I've done the breakdown desk for a trucking company and then for the last 9.5 years was a service writer for a Freightliner dealership. Didn't just have to take care of the customers, had to take care of the mechanics needs too. Randy, I will definitely have to go to that fall gathering. Regis, we got lucky as our house was only on the market for 50 days and we got our asking price. He loves my shop and she loves the house. They moved up here to be closer to their kids and grand kids, and it didn't hurt that the kids only live 300 feet away!! Clay, thank you so much for the names. I will for sure get to know Curt. (hopefully sometime this year I'll send you a pic of a completed 3 legged stool!!) Thanks to all for the great info!!! Timbo
joet Report post Posted May 15, 2008 I live about 8 miles east for where you are moving (Pueblo). You might think about joining either the Pikes Peak Pounders or the Columbine guild in Denver. The Pounders meets every third Wednesday of each month at the Tandy Store in Colorado Springs at 6:00. A lot of the members drive long distances to the guild meetings as do I. Look me up after you get moved. Joet (Joe Talbott)
Dink Report post Posted June 18, 2008 Welcome soon to colorado, I live about an hour north of pueblo west. Their is a speciality leater shop in colorado springs also called the trading post I think. My impression was it caters to to native american and some renassiance craft, but they do have hides and tools also. I will be in pueblo at the state fairgrounds at the end of July with a booth at the Ntional Little Britches Rodeo Finals. It would be good to meet.
