Here is a pic of a old swivel knife this one is steel and some are plastic. If you get one shap there vary nice for share corners and a neat little tools. One pic is the tool with the box and the paper that came with it . the other is some fresh cuts made with it. When you get is sharp if cuts vary nice and smoth. The one in the pic was sent to us from a vary nice guy by the name of clint from Iawa that we met in sheridan at the show.It was build by H&S Mfg. in Santa Monica CA.

Thanks for showing a picture of it Russ. When you were describing them, I was having trouble visualizing it. Now I know I have seen them, and didn't know what they were.

This doesn't help, but, I have a handle to one of these knives that I got in a tool buy from an individual. Never knew what that handle with the hole was for until I saw this post. Let me know if you find a source for the blades.

If anyone has one of these relics I could buy or borrow, I'd be interested. I dislocated my right thumb again, and swivel knifing is a challenge with the brace.

There is a similar type of swivel knife at art supply stores: http://www.unitednow.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=EX-16004. One example, around $5. Used primarily for paper cutting (stencils, I think), but I suppose it could be used with leather.

I've got one of these knives somewhere in the tool pile. I'll have to give it a shot.

PS: I think I have some of those original handles too left over from my Father-in-Law's tools. I always wondered what they were for.

I have one of the swivel tip cutters on the way. I'll see how it works. When I visited Russ in South Dakota last month, his dad said he has been using one for quite a while. I can do bigger curves with the brace alright with the big barrel knives. Apparently these swivel tip cutters are designed and still sold as deburring tools.
