Merlyn Report post Posted September 27, 2011 was wondering what you crafters that make use of an airbrush for your color work might be using in lieu of spirit based dyes which I can no longer find (or afford the shipping for)
OdinUK Report post Posted September 27, 2011 The Cova range of dyes can be airbrushed, they may require diluting but I always use Fiebings spirit or oil dyes, they are much better in my opinion - if you can get them.
Ferg Report post Posted September 27, 2011 I am confused by your post. I live 50 miles away from you and have no problem buying spirit or oil based dyes for leather. Visit Feibings site. Someone living in that other country called "California" cannot buy. LOL ferg was wondering what you crafters that make use of an airbrush for your color work might be using in lieu of spirit based dyes which I can no longer find (or afford the shipping for)
OdinUK Report post Posted September 27, 2011 If you live in California, could you not just pop over to the nearest state for 'vacation', fill up the car with what ever "banned" solvents you want and drive back? I think its crazy that these things are banned! Excuse my ignorance
katsass Report post Posted September 28, 2011 (edited) If you live in California, could you not just pop over to the nearest state for 'vacation', fill up the car with what ever "banned" solvents you want and drive back? I think its crazy that these things are banned! Excuse my ignorance How true that comment is ........ I swear that 1/2 of southern CA. makes a run to Vegas every Friday night. And then there is always Laughlin, NV. right on the border of CA. and AZ. Been there more than once for ammo, auto paint and leather stuff ..... like casinos. particle Report post Posted September 28, 2011 I airbrush Fiebing's Pro Oil dyes straight out of the bottle. I have not airbrushed their regular spirit dyes, but don't see any reason it wouldn't work the same. Anything with the fluidity of milk should airbrush just fine. Johnny B Report post Posted September 28, 2011 I have air brushed about every dye out there. Seems they all work fine for me.
Spinner Report post Posted September 28, 2011 To make life in Cal even easier, simply get a resale license for free from the BoE. Allows you to buy most banned items if you know what stores carry them and as long as you pay & charge sales tax when necessary there is no real reporting required. Sav-Mor Leather in downtown L.A. carries Fiebings Pro Oil Dye, Spirit Based Dyes as well as close to the full line of Angelus colors in-stock.
Lui Report post Posted September 28, 2011 A customer of mine told me about this and I have been trying it out with good results. Its called Createx acrylic air brush paint. You use it out of the bottle and Its water based (easier to clean and safer) Its available in art stores or online in a bunch of places. I did this band with it and it came out OK. It was a rush job no tooling or anything just painted and thats it.
