firefly67 Report post Posted November 28, 2011 Hello all, I am looking for a reasonably priced, good condition 5 in 1, and a sole splitter (both hand cranked). The ones I am finding online in stores seem pretty expensive but I don't know what they *should* cost, either. Therefore, some comparison is in order, or info from those of you who may have purchased these machines in used condition and can tell me what to look for, both good and bad, and what a fair price ought to be. Also seeking a pair of bulldog pincers, and have had no luck so far in locating them. Anybody got a pair they don't use much? thanks for any assistance! Art Report post Posted November 29, 2011 The only company that I know of that is making Shank Lasting Pincers (Bulldogs) is USM. On the used tool market look for Christiansen and Barnsley, which normally go for north of $150 from good tool dealers. I also have found french makes (Bourdon I think) that have a drop lip which also work very well. If you get the USMs, put a wooden handle on them as that plastic is so, so, incorrect (doesn't feel right if you use your leg to last). Ferg Report post Posted January 2, 2012 (edited) I have a 5 in 1 that I have completely overhauled. New skiving blade, new cutting wheel and guide, new welting unit. I removed all old paint repainted, broke the machine down, cleaned shafts and all moving parts, and greased. Works like a brand new machine. I have seen these for sale for over $1000, I am not asking near that. PM me if interested. I can send you some photos also. ferg Hello all, I am looking for a reasonably priced, good condition 5 in 1, and a sole splitter (both hand cranked).
