Members Andrew Chee Posted February 7, 2012 Members Report Posted February 7, 2012 Hello all, I was looking at a video on Youtube and there was a tool I saw that was used to turn edges. I've never seen one of these before. Does anyone know what it is. Please check out the video link below and look at the tool used at 2:05. Thanks. Andrew Quote
Contributing Member Ferg Posted February 7, 2012 Contributing Member Report Posted February 7, 2012 Andrew, It looks to be made similar to a "Metal Brake". I have been thinking about building one. I have some 1/2" thick aluminum that would work. Probably make a prototype of wood first. ferg Hello all, I was looking at a video on Youtube and there was a tool I saw that was used to turn edges. Members Andrew Chee Posted February 7, 2012 Author Members Report Posted February 7, 2012 It's funny how sometimes you find the answer right after you ask them question. I was looking around for a few days for this but didn't find anything. I asked the question here and then googled something else and presto, found the answer. They're called Leather Folding Machines (duh). Seems like Randall Campbell carries them. The basic models fold leather in a straight line. You can find some info on them from the links below. http://www.bibomec.it/pages/FSOPENENG.HTM http://www.bimac.info/index_Page3127.htm I called up Randall cause I was curious how much something like this would cost. And not surprisingly (as it always seems the case with function specific leather tools) it was pretty expensive. $1000+. Anyways, here's the info for those who are curious. Andrew Quote

If it works well, let me know if you'd want to build a second one and sell it to me (assuming an affordable price of course). Andrew Quote
Contributing Member Ferg Posted February 7, 2012 Contributing Member Report Posted February 7, 2012 Will let you know. Leaving for two weeks in Florida in a few days. Probably work on it when we get back. ferg Hi Ferg, If you do, let me know how it works. Northmount Posted February 8, 2012 Report Posted February 8, 2012 Or buy a sheet metal brake and modify it to suit. That light duty one is only about $50. Probably available at Harbor Freight too for a US source. Quote

Contributing Member Ferg Posted February 10, 2012 Contributing Member Report Posted February 10, 2012 Problem with the metal brake..... The bar that presses the edge of the leather down needs to go all the way down plus adjustable for thickness of the leather you are folding. Hold-down is located about an inch from the folding edge of the leather. That dimension would be determined by the thickness of the presser bar. Metal brakes of the type HF has aren't adjustable as accurately as would be need for leather. ferg http://www.harborfre...q=+Metal+Brake+ Don't see why it wouldn't work? Quote
