Members mncarpenter Posted April 2, 2012 Members Report Posted April 2, 2012 I have a customer wanting holsters for S&W models 686/L frame and a 66/K Frame-naturally there doesn't seem to be a direct dummy model for either..has anyone used a Ruger GP 100 for the 686? Or a Taurus 85 for the 66? I know Rings has a K-frame dummy, is this close enough for the 66? Quote

Model 66 is stainless steel version of model 19 these were primarily chambered for 38spcl/357 mag they have an ejector rod shroud. The rings K Frame looks like it is modeled after the S&W M&P model 10 which has no ejector rod shroud and would be chambered for 38 spcl so there may be a difference in cylinder length. Scott Quote

The Ruger won't work for either --- too much difference in their dimensions I believe. Mike Quote

Members Eaglestroker Posted April 2, 2012 Members Report Posted April 2, 2012 The Taurus is slightly smaller than the 66 for reference. Lindell does have both though! Quote
Members DoubleBarP Posted April 3, 2012 Members Report Posted April 3, 2012 Finally a question I can answer. (Smith & Wesson Armorer School).. K frame is a model 19 or 66. L frame is a 586 / 686. L frame is the larger of the two. A ruger will not work for either due to size difference. Also a model 10 while it is a K frame it the ejector rod does not sit inside the barrel shroud like the 19 or 66. Hope this helps... DBP Quote
