MADMAX22 Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Hey guys jsut wondering what is the best way to get some fabric glued to the flesh side of leather. I am making a wallet and would like to line the inside of the main piece with some cool fabric that I got. Ive got some leather glue, not sure if that will hold it. I plan on lacing the edges but need something in the middle to hold it against the leather. Thanks for your input. Quote

MADMAX22 Posted July 10, 2008 Author Report Posted July 10, 2008 OK thanks guys, I wasnt sure if the 3M stuff would harm the leather to terribly much. I know leather doesnt like petroleum products. I think Ill give that a try though as I use 3m for alot of other things. Thanks Quote
Members $$hobby Posted July 10, 2008 Members Report Posted July 10, 2008 do a test sample first. some glues will seep its way thru the fabric. im sure you dont want your paper money stuck to the lining? Quote

LOL yeah, I tested a piece of the fabric and glued it to itself with the leather glue from tandy. Seemed to work pretty good and took some force to pull it apart. It also didnt leach thru the fabric. Its just the bond wasnt as strong as I really would like. I picked up some upholstery fabric (feels allmost like suede on one side for couches and stuff, very nice looking and feel while being pretty strong) at Joann's to play with and figured I could try my hand at some wallets. Wanted to play with this because I got some really cool colors. Quote

MADMAX22: I've been using DAP/Weldwood nonflamable contact cement that I buy by the quart at Home Depot. I think it works much better than the Tandy contact cement. Cleans up with soap and water too. Don't know about using it on fabric, so test it first. It has worked well on thin suedes and lining leather for me. Quote
Members Joy Posted July 11, 2008 Members Report Posted July 11, 2008 I use fabri-tack - available at fabric stores for about 10 (in Canada). Bonds fabrics, lace, leather, wood & trim. Dries clear. Acid-free & washable. Joy Quote
Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted July 11, 2008 Contributing Member Report Posted July 11, 2008 I made a wallet and used 3M 77 to tack down the liner. No movement yet. Oh, and use a straight edge to lay down the fabric so you can avoid bubbles/wrinkles. Quote
