ouchmyfinger Report post Posted May 5, 2012 hey everyone, i just received my new maker stamp from jeff and lisa at grey ghost graphics and wanted to let you know how it was. first the experience was top notch. the service i received was A+ and the product is an A+ as well. I have had another stamp made before by some random person and it was too short and the detail wasn't there which made the surface area too great to get a nice impression so i decided its time to get a new one. I was checking out the website the night before and had a few questions so i emailed them and he responded very very quickly and told me to give him a call. Well by the next morning not only did i speak with him and he answered all of my questions, i had another email with a proof of what my maker stamp would look like sent to my email for approval. Of course i approved and he told me it would go out the next day. Well he called me later and said that he got done with some stuff a little faster than expected and made my stamp and had it in the mail that same day. I just tried my stamp out and it is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! The stamp it top notch, it is long enough to not bash your fingers and not too long, it is round and has a line running down the tool to help with alignment which was impossible with my last one. it is beveled towards the end so i can see the leather for precise placement on my leather. So not only do i get perfect alignment i also get it exactly where i want to put it very easily. The material it is made out of is top notch as well, its not as plastic feeling as others i have seen and does not seem to bounce my maul back at me like my last one did (same maul, leather, working surface, etc) it also comes with a perfect fitting *and matching ) * black cap to protect the end of the tool, i can throw it in my drawer with other tools with confidence that it will not be damaged. they didn't have to knock my stamp out and ship it fast, i actually told them no rush. its little things like that which make a business stand out and keep their customers and I'm sure that everyone else that got a stamp from them has sent them business just by word of mouth. my phone camera is acting up so ill get pics soon or just shoot me a pm and ill send one to you to your email address when i get them downloaded what it really comes down to for anyone reading this.......the impression, clear, detailed, easy to use, great price for a great product. I got a perfect result every time. anyone interested i would recommend to give him a call and tell him you read a review on leatherworker and maybe you could save a few bucks ) if your reading this at night and check out their website i would say you can go ahead and order one with confidence right off the website and have no worries let me know if you have any questions about it

Bob Blea Report post Posted May 8, 2012 I've had my Grey Ghost maker's stamp for about a year now and it works perfectly and I've had no trouble with it. It's been great and I recommend them highly. Bob
AndyL1 Report post Posted May 8, 2012 (edited) I had Jeff make one for me a few years back too. Still holding up and very solid Delrin. I like the diameter of the tool as it closely matches the diameter of my mallet so I get a large striking surface. I also really like the level of detail he gets out of the laser cut. The tiny details in my logo really came through! Love it! -Andy Edited May 8, 2012 by AndyL1
stelmackr Report post Posted May 9, 2012 hey everyone, i just received my new maker stamp from jeff and lisa at grey ghost graphics and wanted to let you know how it was.<<<snip>>> I just tried my stamp out and it is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! <<<snip>>> My friend James Polson, made a modification to my Grey Ghost maker stamp that greatly improved the quality of the impression. I found that with even a large, heavy dead blow hammer, that there was the chance of a double image or an image lighter on one side. Even when I did not get a bounce, but needed to deepen the impression, I found that hitting that large, flat end was not always successful. My stamp has lots of small lettering making it even more difficult. James' modification makes the hitting alignment much easier and forces the blow more towards the center. Here is a picture of the modification to the hitting end: Bob Stelmack www.pslac.org
Bluesman Report post Posted May 9, 2012 I have but one complaint for the stamp I have. A center line on both sides. Center line on the sides would also be helpful. Other than that great tool, I like mine. Or how about a centering block???

UKRay Report post Posted May 10, 2012 Something I've done to my Delrin stamps may be useful if you have a large stamp. Rather than turning the end down to a smaller diameter like Stelmackr (great idea but I don't have the lathe skills), I have simply put a dome on the striking end so that all the impact hits the centre of the dome. It seems to help stop double impressions and because the pressure is evenly applied it generally gives a cleaner look to the finished stamp. Art Report post Posted May 10, 2012 On big Delrin stamps, I find it easier to put them in the arbor press. I use a 3 ton press so it is easy to get the stamp under the press. I haven't tried it on the clicker press, but if I was going to do a lot of them, I would shorten the stamp to a little less than my clicker dies so I wouldn't have to keep resetting the height or stroke. For small Delrin stamps, you don't have to do any of that, they work just fine as they are. I use the press on my steel maker stamps too as they work better that way.
