Ferg Report post Posted June 12, 2012 Some things I simply cannot resist. These little guys are across the road from our home under the neighbor's home. Four of them about 10 or 12 inches long. As I took photos of this little guy he started coming toward me until I decided enough was enough, they are old enough to "Spray". ferg
Sylvia Report post Posted June 13, 2012 LOL! Cute little buggers.... and I think it was prudent of you to increase the distance between you and the little guy.
TexasJack Report post Posted June 13, 2012 A neighbor let his dogs out to do their business and they started barking. He went out to see what was going on and they had cornered a skunk. Just as he went to get the dogs, the skunk sprayed them and the dogs ran past him and into the house. They rolled on the carpet, the couch, and every pillow they could find to try to get the skunk spray off of themselves. He had to get a professional cleaner to come in and decontaminate the place. BIGGUNDOCTOR Report post Posted June 13, 2012 Get some Stop Rot. It is used in taxidermy / tanning to stop rot in hides-it also kills skunk odor instantly. One guy on the taxidermy forum told us his husky went from staying outside to sleeping n the bed with an application. Van Dykes taxidermy supply should have it, or if you have another supplier closer.

This time of year, around the homes along our foot deep 'River', we'd have an influx of the little desert spotted skunks. Cute little beggars, and many folks would leave dry cat food out for them . The local Jr. College healed one up that I brought in to them that had been injured, and the little guy wandered the biology dept. as it's new home for quite a while. Apparently, simple surgery removes the 'stinkum' glands, as they can spray, but not like the big guys. The little guys will stamp their front feet, then bounce up on them and pooof --- in the right light you can see a small greenish cloud out in front of them --- no solid stream. It generally takes quite a bit for then to spooked enough to let go. Mike Edited June 13, 2012 by katsass
Ferg Report post Posted June 13, 2012 We are surmising the mother has gotten herself killed on the road. These little guys are probably looking for some food. They are about the size folks use to keep for pets. They definitely followed my voice. Now! What do I do with our collie that has been sprayed several times in the past? She will probably be spending some extended time inside the house. ferg 1339606413[/url]' post='252407']Ferg, waaaaay back before I went into law enforcement, i was an animal control officer.
