Members jayjay Posted September 8, 2012 Members Report Posted September 8, 2012 (edited) Here is a few watchbands made from some 4/5 scrap I had laying around. The hardware is chicago screws. They are lined with pig skin which I was told was "Sweat Resistant". Can anyone conform this? Edited September 8, 2012 by jayjay Quote
Members Horrrk Posted September 8, 2012 Members Report Posted September 8, 2012 Here is a few watchbands made from some 4/5 scrap I had laying around. The hardware is chicago screws. They are lined with pig skin which I was told was "Sweat Resistant". Can anyone conform this? Nice collection there Jayjay..they seem very well constructed.. Couple of questions.. Do the chicago screw heads irritate against the wrist though? What stitches per inch are they stitched at? As to your question..by sweat resistant, do you mean that they won't tarnish or won't be damaged from sweat? I had a quick look around on Google and found the following statement about pigskin, on a site called Allied Gloves: "Pigskin is more breathable and supple than cowhide because of sweat pores on the surface of the leather. Pigskin offers the best abrasion resistance for longer wear. The naturally high lanolin content in pigskin allows it to return to softness, even after repeated contact with water." Now I worked with pigs for 12years, a few back and I've had my share of crackling..but this threw up all kinds of conflicts in my head, cos I'd always been told that although pigs have pores, they are not for sweating and that they only sweated through their noses..so I had a look at the subject and got more confused by the mix of opinions out there..lol.. Apparenlty, according to one opinion, they have sweaty ankles?!?! I'm not sure if that helps at all with your question, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in.. Members jayjay Posted September 9, 2012 Author Members Report Posted September 9, 2012 Thanks The screws don't iritate the wrist as they don;t move. I was planning on putting one side between the liner and the top leather but I was worried that it would spin. Thats funny about the sweaty ankles... By sweat resistant I was thinking that it wouldn't absorb the sweat from the wrist. The switching is 92 thread at 7 SPI Nice collection there Jayjay..they seem very well constructed.. Members LeatherWerks Posted September 11, 2012 Members Report Posted September 11, 2012 Nice collection of watch bands. What type of machine do you use, and what size thread is used in watchbands. I'd like to make a few for myself but have never tried. Steve Here is a few watchbands made from some 4/5 scrap I had laying around. The hardware is chicago screws.
