Jimbob Report post Posted October 23, 2012 Not sure if I showed this one here,,,,its a Ruger SR 22 holster to the liking of a customer...custom paddle in the back is for storing the holstered gun in a special console between seats....and eventually for short walking trip in pants or pocket...!! Still learning big time in holster making....but enjoying it big time....there are so many ways to make a holster....and so many ways to make it better,,,,so here I go. Thanks for letting me know what ya all think... James
Shooter McGavin Report post Posted October 23, 2012 I would be careful selling items with a copyrighted logo on them. OK to do for yourself, not OK to sell. The holster really gets in the way of the grip, try to leave some more "finger room" there next time. Otherwise it looks pretty darn good! The paddle is cool. Is it reinforced or? chiefjason Report post Posted October 23, 2012 Along with the grip issue, I always try to keep the mag release uncovered. If the mag release is covered by material then you can inadvertently eject the mag. That would be the holsters fault. If it's clear of any material and that happens, it's the carriers fault. Just a though. And since I'm being grilled (and rightly so) over some stitch lines in my thread. You could probably move them in some on the bottom of the trigger to move the gun up and create both space for the grip and expose that mag release. Nice and simple. Looks good. katsass Report post Posted October 23, 2012 (edited) From the grump: The Chief has it right. The mag release needs to always be clear, and there needs to be more clearance for a good grip. Also, a gun seats on the front of the trigger guard in the holster, not on the front of the grip area. Again, the Chief has it covered - - I just thought I'd add my two cents for something to do at before 4am in the morning. Art Report post Posted October 23, 2012 The Ruger logo on the holster implies it was made or commissioned by Ruger. Big No No. Another user may imply that it has safety design by Ruger. You should not do that, even for a customer, if the customer wants it, he can put it on himself. Art
Jimbob Report post Posted October 23, 2012 exactly.......what I was looking for.....thanks, that's some darn good advice....mag relaese issue....never thought about that one, hmmm...logo issue, aware of that, told new owner about it wanted it anyway...stitching....need to take more care to do this right. gripp issue....the owner wanted max protection to gun, holster is more storrage then actually to draw from, but will keep this in mind for next holster! Paddle is semi reinforced ...( heat hardened leather ) need to make one for myself, have nice 44 special 5 shooter that I like to carry....of course wheel guns have different issues. I will hang around here more often, seems this is a very solid bunch of guys with holster knowhow! Again, thank you for all the info!!! Jimbob
katsass Report post Posted October 24, 2012 From the grump: One thing about a paddle holster is that the paddle needs to be pretty heavy, AND there needs to be reinforcement on the back of the holster in the form of a thicker piece of leather to keep the thing from getting a permanent=nt bend or crease in it. Here's one I did recently. Mike
camano ridge Report post Posted October 25, 2012 And in addition to what art said it is not the customer they can come after it is you because you are the one that copied their logo onto an item that you sold.
